hi,
Ive just upgraded from Athlon 64 socket AM2 x2 3800+ to a Athlon AM2 x2 4800+
and ive seen no performance increase at all so far yet

System
FOXCONN N570SM2AA-8EKRS2H
X-fi sound card
Inno3d 8800gts 320mb
2gb Elixir DDR2 800Mhz

Quake 3 1280 x 1024
362fps - 4800+
361fps - 3800+

3dmark 2006
7514 - 4800+
7510 - 3800+

Crysis demo average 30fps both 3800+ and 4800+

Noticed in CPU-Z the memory only running in single channel mode too with 4800+ but with 3800+ it was dual channel

Would reinstall windows sort the performance problem out ?

no its a bios issue. Try to clear the cmos and then see if your ram shows up as dual channel. Also make sure that the ram is installed in the correct slots.

1280x1024 res is far too high to notice any CPU benefit. Try 640x480 and you'll notice the FPS difference.

Cleared CMOS still same
Strange thing is the memory in right slots according to manual was running in dual channel with 3800+
Ive took memory out slot 3 and into slot 2 and according to manual this will enable single channel mode, but with 4800+ its dual channel
Going to email foxconn see why it does that

Performance wise no change still no difference from 3800+

Ive read reviews and seen cpu scaling on 8800gts and cant workout why my 3dmark 2006 scores not improved as it should be about 8000 marks now.

well instead of using 3dmark for a cpu test use NuclearMC or SUPER PI instead. If you still have the CPU try to bench both and see what you get. If you don't still have that cpu run sandras tests instead so you can compare your results to a 3800

3D Mark 2006 is mostly GPU intensive so CPU performance makes little diffrent. If you run 3D Mark 2001 or 2003 you will notice the diffren much more.

tried Sandra pro and there a difference

looking at AMD Phenom processors next year or might go intel Quad

You think going from 3800+ to 4800+ u get a nice boost

As you can see from this i should be getting nearly 8000 3dmarks in 3dmark 2006 :(

only compare the cpu scores not the entire score

What are your computer specs? The CPU may not be your bottleneck here...

did you already do what everyone else told you to do?

they are right. 3dmark06 is GPU intensive.

try SuperPI if you want to compare CPU/memory performance.

Did Sandra pro and CPU FPU and ALU benchmark shows up its Faster then 4800+ listed
Strange games not making use of the extra cpu power like they used to.

I Reinstall system and turn psyhics up in games that use them and see what performance lose there is, only thing i can think of the extra cpu power is used for in todays games.

Just installed Need for speed Pro street racer getting a nice 40fps average and 35fps - 39fps with 8xAA and Anstropic filtering turned on.

They don't even show the score for a 4800.

4800+ should be in between the 4600+ and 5000+ in performance wise ive found 1 with 4800+ listed not found it yet.

Ive encounted more problems think its motherboard and timmings, i cant install vista with the 4800+ installed only winxp :(

With 3800+ installed it was working ok

looks like Foxconn N570SM2AA problem with DDR-2 PC6400 800mhz memory as with 3800+ memory was running with np at 404mhz ( 808mhz ddr2 ) but with 4800+ only 356mhz in cpu-z at default settings and BIOS on auto for settings.
