D8E, Nvidia's new high end comes in Q1

Two chip, probably G92+s

Nvidia told a few holy souls that its new high end card is getting ready for Q1 2008 launch. Nvidia knows it is late for Xmas but it didn't had much options as the new high end was simply not ready for Q4 2007.

The whole new high end codenamed D8E – Enthusiast will have two chips on two PCB's with two huge power connectors. Most of you remember the 7950 GX2 so this will be a similar card. We still have to confirm if the chips on this cards are two G92's but we heavily suspect that Nvidia can enable the eight cluster of this 65nanometre chip and make the current 8800GT chip even faster. If Nvidia does that 8800GT chip will become 8800GTS 512MB, just with a touch of a flash tool.

After all the G92 has more transistors than the G80 which means it has at least the same brute power, faster Shaders and a new Video processors and we are sure that it has eight clusters just as many as G80 has.

Two of these chips should run very fast and we reckon that such a card should be able to beat R680, ATI’s high end scheduled for the same timeframe.

Nvidia also plans a new single chip high end card for mid 2008 codenamed G100 or D9E.

It will be the upgrade time for GTX users.

Maybe this is the mighty 1 TFlop card.

If this is true, I'm not going to jump on it right away after the issues they had with the 7950 GX2 and especially under Vista. The ATi R680 solution is looking good too seeing that X38 supports Crossfire. This should be interesting, but I'm going to have to see full reviews and see how driver support goes.

first GX2 worked great for me in XP, never tried it under vista, but did hear a lot of horror stories. Not very happy about this move.

probably will wait till G100, maybe maybe R680.

Ugh..I really wish their card coming Q1 2008 was a single chip only.

I cant see th value in SLI when it only works properly in a select few games. I had SLI 8800gtxs for awhile and I gave one away when I came to the conclusion the sacrifices just weren't worth it. My biggest gripe with SLI, no triple buffer support...I can't live without it.

Crossfire has a poor history compared to SLI.

Crossfire has a poor history compared to SLI.Quite true. If only they realized the market share to be gained here and put forth the effort to make a really good card again and support Crossfire. If only...

Um... triple buffering does work with SLi.

Um... triple buffering does work with SLi.

Really? Before I got SLI I read around that triple buffer wasn't possible with SLI. Luckily that was the only reason that made me drop the second card, but that is nice to know for the future. Thanks

sli does work with triple buffer...in directx9. Directx10 no way. vsync, sli, directx10 do NOT go together right now..hopefully it will some day. I love vsync.

Nvidia fixed it with the 8-series.

And this is terrible news, if true, from Fudzilla. At this point we're lucky that they're mostly full of #*!&! Let's hope it's the case again.

If this is the case then it makes my decision easier to ride my 8800GTX for another year.

If this is the case I will sit out the next card,no way in hell I will deal with GX2 crap, and non working SLI profiles....... :thumbdwn: I hope they are wrong,1000 % wrong.

I'm going through hell with my 7950gx2 and vista. The card is just worthless for newer titles.

Prolly, i'll keep my GTX till the next single chip monster card.

For SLI, you need to fight with a nVidia chipset, fight with Vista, fight with the SLI profiles, ... and performance isn't 2x times better when everything works. But, it's a must if you want to use 2560x1600.

Both are interesting products. If SLI works good enough in Vista in Q1 I'll get a D8E for sure.

After talking to someone in the know,I will be hanging on to my current card until the late Spring/early Summer.

Don't recall any issues i had with my GX2.

first GX2 worked great for me in XP, never tried it under vista, but did hear a lot of horror stories. Not very happy about this move.

Well...GX2 is SLI...SLI and Vista don't shake hands well...they were @ war when Vista first came out to the public/beta/etc...and now they shake hands..but have there fingers crossed behind the back...so yea..GX2 is going to have some issues -.-....main reason why i still cant actually move to Vista.

But there are no horror stories with the GX2..infact GX2 is a really great card..still runs my games =).

Will i get another GX2...mm depends on the cooling solution they plan to do..the next GX2..if nvidia plans to release will most likely be 2 8800GT's slapped together....and tbh i want to use Vista soon..with SP1 hopefully out soon i would like to convert to Vista..but my next upgrade might avoid SLI because...SLI and Vista...still don't go well...unless they fix it soon.

SLI does work in Vista..but its not on par with XP..while Single GPU works pretty solid/on par with XP

And semi-sli or no SLI on a the GX2 will cripple the card and be a total waste of money..hence why i am still on XP..if i move to Vista it means pretty much i will be using Vista with a single GPU running in my GX2..which is not what i paid my $ for..
