View Full Version : 2960 drivers with gcc30 may solve many problems

Hi - esp. Andy
looks like everyone having same troubles with the latest drivers, I know, that the 2960 was working very well under MDK 9.0 even with twinview, but unfortunately I cannot install them, because they're compiled with gcc 2.x and our kernel with MDK 9.1 is with gcc3.x

Would it be possible to recompile the 2960 with gcc 3 and post them somewhere for testing.

I am running an AcerTM632 with Geforce2Go 1400x1050 and ever since I switched to MDK 9.1, I have the follwing troubles:

-console switch in X does overdrive my display
-exiting X leaves display in overdriven mode
-TwinView does not work either

I am using the same XF86Config-4 which worked fine under MDK 9.0 with nvidia2960 (see attached)

Hope you can help - maybe its a good workaround for the moment.

addition to last post:

Tried to use 3123 driver, but no choice - switching to console from X with STRG-ALT-F1 or exiting X leaves display in an overdriven mode until reboot.

I am afraid to spoil my display, because I many times work on console after exiting X.

I tried everything now, even switching X to 4.2 (now having 4.3).

Do I really have to go back to Mandrake 9.0???

Not "everyone" is having issues with these drivers. I, for one, am using them happily.

As for your console switching issue, are you using a high-res framebuffer console? If not, try it and see if it helps at all. Enable it by passing vga=788 (for 1024x768) or vga=794 (for 1280x1024) to your kernel at boot time.

I know, not all will have problems ;) but it looks very much like since MDK 9.1 such problems are all around - saw in other forums the same.

I tried any "vga=" parameter without luck. What are you using as resolution in X?

I will see, whether going back to the old kernel may work.

I'm using 1280 in X, but using either vga= option seems to work for the framebuffer.
