I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, or similar problem:

I have an Abit Ab9 Pro motherboard, and I have 4 x 1 gig dimms G.skill DDR2 PC6400 installed. I was running in Vista 32 with no problems, but of course, I could only see 3.2 gigs of memory. I decided to install Vista 64 as a dual boot, and got the operating system up and running with all latest updates. However, the problem is when I go to install any games from (FSX, Bioshock, FEAR...etc...), I get this error.

Error 1335 The cabinet file XXXXX required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD ROM, or a problem with this package.

I replaced the cab file with XXXXX because it changes each time I try to install a game.

I noticed that when I take out two gigs of RAM and reboot, I can install the games fine in Vista 64 with no errors. I can even put the two gigs back in and play the game fine. It's just a pain to haft to crack open the case every time I want to install something.

I did some research and Microsoft had this article about this exact problem:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258496

However, none of their fixes involves a problem with the RAM. I tried the article resolutions, and none of them worked. Even where I copy all the DVD install files locally and try to install from the hard drive, I still get the error 1335.

Any suggestions how to fix would be appreciated

FYI: Have Q6600 , 8800GTX and nothing is over clocked.

You say NOTHING is overclocked but what are your EXACT bios settings? And is your ram 110% non bad. And can you try a different controller?

Have you tried loosening the timings and such like.

BIOS settings are all auto, meaning MB detects the settings. I don't have another motherboard to test the RAM on, though, I don't think it's the RAM, as I've tried memtest86 and also, I've tried the the RAM in different combinations, up to 3gigs only installed in x64 with no errors. It's just when I get the full 4gigs I have this problem.

Make a clean install of Vista with only 2 sticks o ram. Update with all the updates available, there is one that fixes the issue donīt remember witch one.
The connect the 2 other sticks and should work fine.

I had basically just given up trying to play anything in Vista 64, until I tried to install Crysis. I was having the CAB corruption errors not only in Vista 64 but now also in Vista 32 and even XP. So that remotivated me to try more things and eventually the manual bios settings worked.

Good luck!

I was able to fix this problem with my AB9 Pro by doing the following....

Go into the bios and under the Advanced Chipset Features--> set the DRAM Timming Selectable option to "manual"

My RAM has these settings from the manufacturer: 5-5-5-15 (your RAM settings may differ)

So in the bios menu I set it to:

tCL = 5
tRCR = 5
tRP = 5
tRAS = 5
Command Rate = 2T
tRFL = left this setting on "auto"

Hope this helps others.

Thanks for your help. My memory timing also 5-5-5-15 and nothing happen when i use the manual setting. Still got same error. There are also others error when i try to install game to the pc. From my opinion, Abit motherboard is very unstable because I didn't get any problem with my old pc compared to this one.

My problem solved. Change the RAM from corsair to kingston. No error come out after that. Thanks for all your help and suggestion. It's really motivated me to try something.

I was gonna say maybe it was a bad stick ( and it still might be) test each with memtest and loop test 5 or 8 for a bit to determine which is bad. This might help in the future when troubleshooting a memory issue.
