View Full Version : Halo War canceled?? Some Microsoft exec to be fired?

11-11-07, 12:53 PM
1up Yours this week (11/09/07) mentions a couple of "hot rumors" near the end of the podcast. Here are the transcripts from the relevant segments in the podcast:

Shane: I won't go into exacting detail because these rumors haven't been confirmed but they're definitely swirling around. They're probably gonna break next week. So a preview of what you may be seeing next week. A big Microsoft first-party title that has been in the works for a very long time that people are very excited for, sounds like it's being canceled. And a Microsoft executive who's pretty high up, who's been a voice for the company, sounds like he's on the way out. (1:58:11-1:58:37)

Simon: How solid are these rumors? (1:58:46-1:58:48)

Shane: I would give these rumors like a 97-percent chance. (1:58:50-1:58:55)

The voices are host/EGM editor Shane Bettenhausen, 1UP Network VP of Content Simon Cox, and Jane Pinckard of GameGirlAdvance.

it doesn't mention Halo War, but what other title could it be?

I doubt it's Halo War. But besides that, Fable 2, and Banjo-Kazooie 3, I can't really think of any 1st party titles that are even coming out. Banjo-Kazooie 3 would be most likely in the sense that practically nothing has been released about it, but that doesn't seem like a "people are very excited for" type game

Is it possible by first party they just meant exclusive? Too Human, Huxley, and Alan Wake could all be possibilities, but who knows. Someone also mentioned Project Gotham Racing 5 saying that maybe they just meant a developed series, but I don't think many people are hyped up about that. Who knows!

Duke Nukem Forever X360 version perhaps?

This would be beyond stupid, especially after they went into so much trouble to shut down the Halogen mod...

11-11-07, 01:25 PM
by first party i think they mean a game developed either by microsoft or company owned by MS.

11-11-07, 11:10 PM
Come across this...

They finally landed on Banjo Kazooie because the developing company, Rare, has "not been able to deliver its best performance" ever since Microsoft acquired the company. Not being important to the console, Banjo Kazooie may well have been the game that was given the boot. Of course without proper confirmation from Microsoft though, this remains to be speculation.

people were excited about Banjo Kazooie ?

11-11-07, 11:32 PM
Definitely cant be Halo Wars. It'll be too stupid...

11-11-07, 11:34 PM
Haha! Microsoft acquires rare, and then rare stiff's them. :D

I wouldn't put too much credit into it at this time, Shane who reports for 1up is saying the rumor is 97% likely to be true, and there already was a MS exec fired http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/microsoft-executive-fired-violating-company/story.aspx?guid=%7B3C9D5FC9-8119-4559-93AE-8FA7ED975002%7D&dist=hplatest

I hope Halo Wars is cancelled... looked like a piece of crap console RTS based on a piece of crap series that they are just trying to milk the **** out of.

11-12-07, 08:52 AM
Halo wars was indeed looking pretty atrocious.

11-12-07, 10:06 AM
I'd take a new Banjo-Kazooie over Halo Wars any day of the week myself.

11-12-07, 10:42 AM
Probably Banjo Kazooie or maybe even Too Human?

11-12-07, 11:37 AM
Too Human was actually looking pretty interesting, I'd hate to see it cancelled.

Yes, it looks awesome - but it seems to be the new Duke Nukem Forever of console games with all the Unreal Engine 3 problems and having to rewrite the engine etc.

Halowars looks like most other rts's http://www.halowars.com/Media.aspx

So it's not the Banjo. And we all know that with how closed lipped Microsoft is, if they actually deny a rumor, they mean it

Last week, Shane Bettenhausen caused an internet uproar, an e-debacle if you will, when he hinted that an anticipated Microsoft first-party title would soon be canceled. The title turned out to be Marvel Universe Online, and while it hasn't been officially canceled, it sounds like production is at a standstill. The second, less sexy part of the rumor: A top Microsoft exec is on the way out. The 1UP team tossed out another hint about the possibly-soon-to-be-departed on this week's episode of the 1UP Yours podcast.

Towards the end of the show while the topic was being discussed, host Garnett Lee asked guest host N'Gai Croal, "Do you watch any Nickelodeon like Something Possible?". If you're not as adept with afternoon TV trivia as we are, allow us to drop some knowledge: He's talking about Kim Possible. And that points squarely at Microsoft Games Studios boss Shane Kim. We have no substantiation for the rumor save for 1UP's own credibility, but that's nothing to sneeze at. We'll keep you posted.

11-20-07, 11:13 AM
I can see Shane Kim getting the boot or demoted, he has not handled the management of the MS game studio's very well lately. As for a canceled game, if it turns out to be false.. 1up is likely to have a whole lot of mud on their face.

I say bring back Ed Fries!
