So I recently played through the Crysis demo, chugging along at 40FPS and decided it would be best if I upgraded my graphics card considering that games are just getting more demanding.

So here is my current card:

But I'm thinking of getting two of these:

Opinions?

Dual 8600 would be a huge downgrade. Only way you'd see a performance upgrade is getting dual 8800 GTS or moving to the 8800 GTX or ultra.

I dont even think SLi 8600GTS's are as fast as 1 8800gts;) Keep what you have. The 8800GTS 640mb is still a damn good card. Wait till the newer models show up and then think about upgrading. Crysis is a HUGE gfx card hog, and even the 8800ULTRA has some issues playing it.

You would regreat that because the 8600GTS is a lot slower then a 8800GTS and I seriously doubt two would be better then one 8800GTS 640mb.

Going Sli is so tough from the perspective of the OP.

Just know that if you add another 8600GTS, you will see a nice boost!

But, also know that you will be about on par with an overclocked single 8800GTS, if that (at medium to low res).

Really, buying 4th Gen (in the series), referencing 8800GTX Ultra vs 8800GTX vs 8800GTS, and then down to 8600x with any intent on trumping anything above is the wrong way to get into, or even think about Sli.

You started Budget, keep going. Add another card and you will see a boost.

On the other hand, sell currrent card and jumping to a single 8800GTX will be faster than 8600GT Sli'd.

if you are seriuosly thinking about going SLi, go with another 8800GTS. do not go dual "8600" :)

Two 8600 GTS's will be SLOWER than 1 8800 GTS.

Look up the benchmarks.

Now... maby sell that 8800 GTS at a good price and get two 8800 GT's...

Oh, and I hardly say 40 fps is chugging along in crysis. If you want 100 fps, well wait till the next gen cards come out. Maybe..

+1

You'd be much better off with either 2 8800GTSs or 8800GTs if SLI is the goal or a single 8800GT or 8800GTS. 8600's are mainstream cards and SLI with them is pretty much a waste. The only place I see 8600 SLI being reasonable is if one of the cards was gotten for free.
