When I first turn my computer on the fan spins at 100% for a few seconds(before POST screen) then slows to complete silence.(back to 25% speed) ... does anybody else get this? ive looked on the net and it seems to be happening to quite a few people! anybody know why this is?

Uhm, yes it does happen. Why would it not be normal? Even my NB fan does that.

I think it may depend on who makes the card too. My evga 7800GS/AGP boots up at full speed, my evga 8800gtx does NOT. I actually wish it was the other way around.

Mine too. So maybe it's normal. I don't know how it was with my 8800gts, I suppose its fan is much more silent at full speed. Can someone tell how to monitor the fan speed in vista64.

It is the same here. Worse thing is that it never goes to higher speeds any more no mather what temperature it reaches. I installed RivaTuner and set several levels for fan speed that are switched depending on core temperature so now it is ok and I am sure my GPU wont get baked.
