Hi,

At first: Sorry for my maybe bad english. ;-)

Some times ago, I tried out the nvidia drivers at my RedHat 8.0 system. But after installing it, it took much longer to start the X Server than before. So I turned back to the "nv" driver.

But at this time a had problems installing the "nv" driver after a reinstalling of the system.

So i retried the nvidia drivers. I was happy that it was so easy to install with the new installer. And it's also easier to use the tv-out.

But it still takes several seconds to start the X Server. Is this normal?

Can I do something to start X more faster?

I already set the "NoLogo" Option on true.

My Hardware:
GeForce4 Ti
Epox 8k3A Mainboard
Amd Athlon XP 1800+

My XF86Config

TIA

From the README:

Q: X takes a long time to start. What can I do?
A: Most of the startx delay problems we have found are caused by incorrect
data in video BIOSes about what display devices are possibly connected
or what i2c port should be used for detection. You can work around
these problems with the XF86Config option "IgnoreDisplayDevices"
(please see the description in (app-d) APPENDIX D: XF86CONFIG OPTIONS).

Can you try the IgnoreDisplayDevices option?

Hi,

Sorry, this FA question isn't in the German README. Now, I prefer reading the english one!

But also this option didn't resolve my problem. I added Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP"! I also tried deactivating TwinView and adding TV. But X still needs a long time to start.
I also tried the ConnectedMonitor Option. But it didn't help.

More Information about my system:
cat /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0
Model: GeForce4 Ti 4200
IRQ: 11
Video BIOS: 04.25.00.28.00
Card Type: AGP

cat /proc/driver//nvidia/agp/card
Fast Writes: Supported
SBA: Supported
AGP Rates: 4x 2x 1x
Registers: 0x1f000217:0x1f000304

cat /proc/driver//nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 4x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Enabled

My Mainboard (Epox EP8K3A) uses a VIA KT333 + VT8233A Chipset.

TIA

PS: I hope I havent surveyed something in the README, again...

Can you post an X log showing this? (preferably with TV and DFP ignored...)

Thanks!

Hi,

What I found out:

When I re-edit my XF86config for using the "vesa" driver I used before, there is also a delay starting the X server!!!

STOP!!!
------
I've just rebooted the machine and started X with the "vesa" driver. After this reboot the X server started in a normal time.
------

I would be very happy if I could solve the delay problem with the nvidia drivers.

But if not, now I could at least start in a normal time with the vesa driver.
Then I could use the nvidia driver only for tv-out.

Big Thanks for helping me!!!
