2nd Standalone PSU?

I need more molex plugs in my case(7 hard drives and counting)
I know you can short pins on a psu to get it to work without a computer, but I read somewhere that can shorten the life of or dammage the psu because it expects to get feedback from a motherboard that helps regulate voltage or something like that.

Im planning on seperating my hard drives from my pc with a sata hub, so i need some way to get molex plugs without blowing anything up

any ideas?

Shorting pins on a PSU doesnt lower the life.

Running a PSU w/o any load WILL lower its life.

I highly suggest not putting HDDs on a seperate power source.

I would get a seperate PSU for all your fans and lights.
