View Full Version : Can Micron D9 chips really handle 2.2v with longevity?

I see these chips are rated at 2.2v according to Crucial, but will I be better off using something less aggressive, like 2.1v? I don't want them to die after a couple months.

mines ran fine at 2.2v for as long as I kept them at that. I decided to go down to 800 Mhz from 1200 mhz to tighten up the timings and avoid issues in Vista.
You shouldn't have a problem. If something does happen, most companies do have a lifetime warranty :)

Well I got mine running at 1066MHz using 2.1v, so I'll just leave it there. These systems don't see any real benefit with faster RAM anyway.

Yup, once you take them beyond 2.0 for any lenght of time, don't expect them to work at 1.85 anymore.
None of my 4 sticks work at 1.85v (mobo default) anymore but they all have been happy at 2.2v for almost a year now.

My old Dominators sustained 2.4vdimm for a good 6 months. On a 680i, too.

Looks like its wasn't stable running 2.1v at 1066, as it locked up doing a defag of all things.
I tightened the timings, so right now I've got it running 4-4-4-12 @ 900MHz with 2.2v, and it survived running Orthos blend for 8 hours, so maybe I will leave like this.
This is probably faster than 5-5-5-18 @ 1066 anyway.

definately. Have you tried going down to 2.1 or 2v?
2.2v isn't really needed unless you are trying to hit 1100 or 1200 mhz.

Well it wasn't stable with 2.1v at 5-5-5-18 1066MHz, but seems to be stable at with 2.2v at 4-4-4-12 900MHz.
I'll try going back down to 2.1 with the tighter timings at 900 and see if it holds up.
