View Full Version : What's the best fan for the 6800GT?
Hi Guys,
My card is reaching 110c (!) when playing HL2 and COD4 - so I clearly need a new fan.
What's the best fan out there? I hear the VF900 is good, but I saw a review and it only brought the temp 10c bellow the stock fan.
Any other ideas/experiences?
(no water-cooling please)
thanks!

You might need to check the airflow in your case, the tempuratures do get up there. I'm loading up rivatuner right now and I'll get you some numbers for what I run in COD4 on the stock cooler.
As for aftermarket coolers I've used this: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?disc=1&idx=40
They don't sell that one anymore, but they have a new product that should fit. http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=91 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186001
I just checked at it's running about 66C idle and I topped out around 95C using the stock cooler. I know that other cooler I use on another card kept it to around 80C, but I also have better airflow in the other pc.
Thanks,
I just don't understand the jump in temps...
My card used to idle at around 50 and get to 70 underload
6800GT cards are famous for collecting dust around the rim of the fan inside the heatsink fins. To check this, it requires you to remove the card from the motherboard. Simply remove the faceplate and look at the heatsink fins located around the fan. Take a can of compressed-air and blow out the dust. Replace the top plate and re-insert card onto motherboard. Getting a 3rd party HSF is still a good idea though. :)
