Rumours abound that the fall dashboard update will be hitting Dec 4th (which is winter).

It is going to include things like the downloading from XBL of original XBOX games for play on the 360.

Plus a parental timer, to limit time played on the 360, and a slew of other things. (rumoured divx is one of them).

Arstechnica http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071113-divx-support-coming-to-playstation-3-xbox-360-support-in-the-works.html thinks that DivX support is coming to the 360 as well, to help round out it's media center extender capabilities. I can't honestly say I have a lot of anything in that format, but I do agree that quite a lot of the stuff on the web uses that codec.

As for the screen resolution, thats kind of a odd one isn't it?

Not really. Most widescreen TFT monitors 22" and below use this resolution as opposed to 1920x1200.

Yup. 1680x1050 is the bread and butter of 20-22" widescreens. I only know of one 22" that uses 1920x1200. A Lenevo or something like that.

What makes me angry is you'd thing resolutions would be one of the easiest things to add support for, and here we are, over 2 years later with one update resolution wise? Boo
