View Full Version : Post your final config for retail crysis here!
What are thoese settings?
I will use them as well!
Battledust is.. well battledust :o - adds some volumentric dust to an area where fighting is going on which makes the game look less sterile during battle and adds to the battle-ish atmosphere :D
I think that pony demonstrated it with some screens some time back.
About the zdistance I have an idea of what it does, but likewise I think pony is the expert here so I'll let him explain ;)
BTW I'm also adding command "r_WaterGodRays 1" - I don't think it's on as default on high settings...
I'm looking at this chart to see the differnece between high and very high settings (bold text is where there's a differnence):
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/392/crysisvarschartve0.th.gif (http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=crysisvarschartve0.gif)
I'm considering to change to the same foilage wind activation distance as the very high setting.
IMPORTANT!
BTW Sowk look at the above chart. As notes on e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy he says he got a a 5FPS difference between 4096 and 8192 on a 8800GTS. The default very high is 2048. 8192 is definently not worth it IMO, I'm adjusting to 4096 ;)
FW 169.09 I'm playing @ 1920x1200 2xAA, All advanced settings on "high", except post prossessing on "medium". Not the best frame rate I've ever seen, but its steady and looks great
With more play time, I realised I wasn't happy with the frame rates, especially in the jungle areas...so I killed the 2xAA I was using and that made a huge performace improvement. I guess Crytech needs to work on thier AA routines because even that piddly 2X setting had a huge cost
I'll have more time to test out settings tonight, as I won't play untill I get the settings just right.
for the sys_specs, the value 3 equals to high right? I'll add this and change from autoexec.cfg to system.cfg so I don't have to use the ingame settings at all; the first sys_spec commands will make it all high, the rest will do the fine tweaking to the high/very high hybrid.
sys_spec_GameEffects = 3
sys_spec_ObjectDetail = 3
sys_spec_Particles = 3
sys_spec_Physics = 3
sys_spec_PostProcessing = 3
sys_spec_Quality = 3
sys_spec_Shading = 3
sys_spec_Shadows = 3
sys_spec_Texture = 3
sys_spec_VolumetricEffects = 3
sys_spec_Water = 3
Oh and Sowk "r_TexResolution = 0" seems unnecessary since it's 0 at both high end very high, look at chart.
And yeah I'm not playing either until I get the tweaking right. I didn't buy 4000$ worth of PC hardware, wait years for Crysis to just throw the precious 10-15 hour SP campaign away without having perfect tweak compromise first :)
Ok here's my tweak so far, largely based on MadBoris' forum tweakguide on incrysis.com actually because he comments many of the command variables and their effect: http://incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=11614&p=1 - must've been a crap pile of work - big huge kudos to that guy!1 :D
Origianally I visioned my tweak to be just the most essential tweaking on the DX9 high settings, but I must admit it perhaps got a liiiitle bit on the "very high"-heavy side, but it should be ok I think. As I mention further down, I've delibertly grouped some "luxury groups" together that I can modify/remove later to match the high settings more if performance becomes intolerable.
sys_spec_GameEffects = 3
sys_spec_ObjectDetail = 3
sys_spec_Particles = 3
sys_spec_Physics = 3
sys_spec_PostProcessing = 3
sys_spec_Quality = 3
sys_spec_Shading = 3
sys_spec_Shadows = 3
sys_spec_Texture = 3
sys_spec_VolumetricEffects = 3
sys_spec_Water = 3
ai_UseAlternativeReadability = 0
q_renderer = 3
r_sunshafts = 1
r_colorgrading = 1
r_UsePOM = 1
r_TexAtlasSize = 2048
r_WaterGodRays = 1
r_TexturesStreaming = 0
r_UseEdgeAA = 0
e_water_ocean_fft = 1
e_water_tesselation_amount = 10
r_WaterReflectionsQuality = 4
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy = 4096
e_detail_materials_view_dist_z = 256
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation = 50
e_foilage_wind_activation_dist = 1
e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = 1.5
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation = 50
es_DebrisLifetimeScale = 1
g_battleDust_enable = 1
g_ragdollDistance = 40
g_ragdollMinTime = 20
Before I begin runthrough: I've made two spaces between blocks of commands when a new type (sys_spec, ai, q, r, e, etc.) is introduces and a single space to seperate the same type com. var. but the top in the top block I will place the essentials, and the bottom block the luxuries. So for example, for the r variables, r_sunshafts, r_colorgrading, and UsePOM are essentials while r_TexAtlasSize = 2048, r_WaterGodRays, r_TexturesStreaming and r_UseEdgeAA are luxuries. If my performance goes below acceptable throughout the game once I start playing, I'll go ahead and gradually crop the luxury settings. One exception is the r_UseEdgeAA, which I'm not sure if I like, but if I really feel I need some AA at some point, I'll have an easy time enabling it.
Now I'll comment a bit on what I feel is worth commenting:
sys_spec settings are set to 3 which are just high settings (I'm running DX9 path by adding -dx9 to the shortcut target of course). I'm running the file as a system.cfg, not autoexec.cfg, which means that it doesn't load on top of game.cfg in documents->my games->crysis, but uses system.cfg as the basis.
ai command - just to make sure that whatever difficulty is ever played, enemy language will stay korean, though I do plan on just going Delta all the time.
q_renderer = 3 - prerequisute for the very high postprocessing colorgrading to work.
And that's it. Ask away if you got any questions on this config (but remember most explanations are in the chart in the above linked tweakguide) and do provide feedback if you feel something should have another value or if something is missing entirely. But this will pretty much be my final tweak. If there's no change to this config as it currently stands, I'll copy it to my first post and host it as a downloadable cfg file in some 12 hours :)
The last thing I have under consideration of adding is the r_BeamsMaxSlices setting and upping it from default 64 high setting to 200 very high setting, or maybe just something in between, 128 or somethin of that sort. Should add some more volume and fidelity to the sunshafts, but I can't find anyone mentioning the magnitude of the performancehit anywhere, not even MadBoris. So I'm thinking of just upgrading to 200 and take it as another luxury setting that be removed if performance becomes intolerable later :)

Start = mostly on High
3rd level in game = switched to Medium
Middle of game = mostly on High
Later in the game = turned to Medium
Near end = mostly on High
Moral, can't really stay at one config;some levels are very GPU hungry while others aren't.

I'll probably make two sets of configs and post them when they're done then.. But you must be playing at 1920*1600 having to go that low?
Anyone have a nice config that scores 60fps average @ 1680x1050 w/ an 8800? I know there will have to be some sacrifices obviously, but I'd like to find a good performance/quality balance for my next play-through. (and not everything need be set to "High", just not quite med :x)

Not possible, you can probably play around 25 fps with everything on high. However, the good news is, is that Crysis feels pretty smooth even for it being 25 fps.
I have everything set to high and a custom processing and water config posted by someone earlier in the thread, and I got around 20 fps on average. Yeah it sucks, but what can you do? I hate sacrificing quality in this game....

Correct, native res is 19x10 here. I tried 12x7 but I just couldn't take the horrible LCD blurriness. Medium does actually look VERY good still compared to almost all other games out there.

Ya, I had to turn off AA completely at 1920x1200... however I am using edgeAA and that is giving me much less of a performance hit while still smoothing things out just enough to not look like ****. Currently playing with everything on High and using the following system.cfg
r_sunshafts = 1
r_WaterGodRays 1
r_UsePOM=1
r_colorgrading=1
e_water_ocean_fft=1
I should read up more on other settings to see what I can cut or add. But at this point I just want to play the damn game already. It looks great with my current settings and plays at about 20~25 FPS average. Not great, but oddly, it seems smooth while playing. I might try to up the OC on my video card and see what that does...

here is my very high system.cfg file if anyone wants it... the performance is only 4-5fps lower than with high only and almost all of the very high effects are on except shadows and part of the shaders (POM is still there)... running the game under in XP at 1920x1200 8xAF and im getting around 25-30FPS average
(note in the cfg i turned off motion blur, depth of field and edge AA since i hate that stuff... but you can easily enable it if you want to)
rename the file extension to .cfg
benchmarks:
Vista DX10 all very high 0xAF: 13FPS
Vista DX10 all very high no blur/dof 0xAF: 17FPS
XP DX9 all high 8xAF: 31FPS
XP DX9 original very high tweak no blur/dof 8xAF: 20FPS
XP DX9 my tweaked very high config no blur/dof 8xAF: 27FPS
My performance isn't that great since I'm running it on an X2 4800+ and single 8800 GTX but no way I'm lowering settings (using 1920x1200, 2xAA, 16xAF, high settings). It looks too good at high settings (using XP) so I'm living with the less than desirable framerates. Strangely, it doesn't seem as bad as most games when running at 20 or less fps. Hopefully I'll get a better system at some point though.

I tried that, but it made some scenes especially those with a lot of grass to look really really ugly. I'm using the configs FastRedPony posted along with his recommendations on the system.cfg. Great combination and you get all the goodies one should see on their first play through.

This game is very much just simply amazing! :D Looks so sweet! Here is my current config. I play at 1920x1200.... about 25~30 FPS solid .... dips to about 20 FPS in a gun fight.... still very playable and looks sooo amazing! Also worth noting is im running on DX10 with these settings and FPS
Set EVERYTHING to High Settings in options menu, then used this system.cfg
r_sunshafts = 1
r_WaterGodRays 1
r_UsePOM=1
r_colorgrading=1
e_water_ocean_fft=1
con_restricted=0

Looks simply amazing and plays quite smooth. Just managed to pull myself off to post this after about 3 hours of enjoying this current config. I just love to walk around in some parts of this game and stare in awe of the graphics! :D
