[pErMan']This game is very much just simply amazing! :D Looks so sweet! Here is my current config. I play at 1920x1200.... about 25~30 FPS solid .... dips to about 20 FPS in a gun fight.... still very playable and looks sooo amazing! Also worth noting is im running on DX10 with these settings and FPS
Set EVERYTHING to High Settings in options menu, then used this system.cfg
r_sunshafts = 1
r_WaterGodRays 1
r_UsePOM=1
r_colorgrading=1
e_water_ocean_fft=1
con_restricted=0
r_GlowScreenMultiplier = 0.2
r_Flares=1
r_Coronas=1
r_MotionBlur=0
r_VSync=1
r_useedgeaa=0
Looks simply amazing and plays quite smooth. Just managed to pull myself off to post this after about 3 hours of enjoying this current config. I just love to walk around in some parts of this game and stare in awe of the graphics! :D
Thanks for this config. This most certainly does give an excellent balance of great image quality while making the game very playable under dx10. I am going to go back and play the game again with this config.

Sorry, first time tweaker, where do I have to paste that? Can't find any system.cfg file?

- I don't like this dark tint. Makes the water appear almost luminescent (look at the waterfall in his pic) and it's very clear that the developer didn't intent the game to be this dark. I don't like it at all ;)
Also this doesn't have any impact on performance so I won't use it for sure..

He is tuning almost all of the shadow parameters so I just prefer to set the shadows with the sys_spec_Shadows setting to set it at predefined medium or high (I'm planning on using medium for the time being).
r_TexturesStreaming=0

This is BS IMO. I can compromise the quality of many things, but not the view distance of various objects and vegetation. I think it's seriously disturbing the experience when stuff is noticeably popping up as you move around. The above settings are corresponding to "low", some are even lower. No thanks :thumbdwn:

Personally I'm using the partial DX9 tweak from Gaco, on 2xGTX at Ultra clocks, and it holds up beautifully, even in very heavy scenes. Thanks alot mate. It works fine for me, anything higher and it chugs along, even with GTX's in SLI. :o

can someone post a kickass Config with performance increase no loss in visuals?
i find it hard to get anything really working plleeeaasee :cool2: :)
Ok my retail tweak is finally done (using Mad Boris' excellent guide (http://incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=11614&p=1)). I've been playing a lot around with a lot of the various command variables, using the benchmark tool to test their difference/effectiveness and this is what I found best. It is indeed geared towards a Core2/GF8800/2gb ram system is most favours quality a bit more than performance, but is pretty well balanced IMO. It's based on the high settings mixed in with some parameter values corresponding to very high and even a few that surpasses very high (commonly called "ultra high) with minimal performance hit. However it's not a quality tweak gone mad, I've taken only the essentials (some of the most imporatant being "very high water", sunshafts/water godrays and better colors and texture sharpness), those things I thought was reasonable performance/quality wise except for one: e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio - but I'll get to this later.
Here goes:
sys_spec_GameEffects = 3
sys_spec_ObjectDetail = 3
sys_spec_Particles = 3
sys_spec_Physics = 3
sys_spec_PostProcessing = 3
sys_spec_Quality = 3
sys_spec_Shading = 3
sys_spec_Shadows = 2
sys_spec_Texture = 3
sys_spec_VolumetricEffects = 3
sys_spec_Water = 3
sys_spec_Sound = 3
q_renderer = 3
r_sunshafts = 1
r_colorgrading = 1
r_UsePOM = 1
r_TexturesStreaming=0
r_UseEdgeAA = 2
r_WaterGodRays = 1
e_water_ocean_fft = 1
e_water_tesselation_amount = 10
e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy = 4096
e_detail_materials_view_dist_z = 256
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation = 45
es_DebrisLifetimeScale = 1
g_battleDust_enable = 1
g_ragdollDistance = 40
g_ragdollMinTime = 20
q_Renderer = 3
q_ShaderFX = 3
q_ShaderGeneral = 3
q_ShaderGlass = 3
q_ShaderHDR = 3
q_ShaderIce = 3
q_ShaderMetal = 3
q_ShaderPostProcess = 3
q_ShaderShadow = 3
q_ShaderSky = 3
q_ShaderTerrain = 3
q_ShaderVegetation = 3
q_ShaderWater = 3
e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = 1.5
^^ This may look disturbing extensive compared to most others, but the sys_spec and q_shader commands are really nothing special, trust me I like to stick to the simple configs as well. Explanations below:
First notice the sys_spec commands - this is just to ensure that the game sets all settings to high, then sets the individual parameters that this config contains. I'm using this tweak as a system.cfg, not autoexec.cfg, which I'm pretty sure means that the system.cfg trumps the game.cfg. Autoexec just adds settings on top of the game.cfg loadout, which means that you can't be 100% sure that it's all applied properly. I dunno if it actually makes a difference, but in this way I can make sure that I won't have to set any graphics settings ingame - at all!
Notice one exception however, the shadows being set to 2 instead of 3, which just means it's set to the predefined medium, not high. I think difference in the shadows isn't worth the FPS cost at this point, though differences of both are pretty small. Still I consider the medium shadows to be the best quality/performance for this tweak.
All the "q_" commands eg. very high shader variables only eats up a single FPS, so I thought it was worth it. All the r, e and g commands are must-haves IMO. The es is just there for the heck of it, doesn't do that much of a difference, but still nice enough.
The very bottom one, e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio, is a big FPS eater, but a noticeable difference if you look closely in the game as well. It's the variable that changes the distance in which vegetation becomes 2d sprites instead fully rendered of 3d stuff. In the benchmark I had a 7FPS difference being critical 24FPS or 31FPS depended on whether it had been set to 1.5 or removed respecively. Here's some old screenshots I used in my (now ancient) partialDX9 tweak vs. very high DX10 comparison:
http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/3203/dx10ppshaderah9.th.jpg (http://img128.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dx10ppshaderah9.jpg) - e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = 1.5 (default on objects @ very high btw)
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1706/dx9tweaksmg1.th.jpg (http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dx9tweaksmg1.jpg) - e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = 1.0 (default on object @ high btw)
JUST TO MAKE CLEAR: THE ABOVE ARE NOT COMPARISON SCREENSHOTS OF THIS CONFIG!!(I've made none so far, only used benchmarking tool for this purpose)
Please ignore any other differences in colorgrading, textures etc. and focus only on the looks of the vegeration - it looks a good deal better with the 1.5 setting, it's fully rendered and more detailed and have more depth and volume, but the cost is high.
So to begin with I'll try to play it with e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = 1.5, if it gets bad at some point or if the performance is less than acceptable in the long run, I'll lower it to 1, thus having only the essentials left.
So remember that: If you think performance is on the unacceptable side during gameplay, just remove the "e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio = 1.5" line from the script!
Here is the downloadable: Gaco's retail config 1.0 (http://rapidshare.com/files/70514454/gaco.retail.tweakconfig1.0.rar) (just the quoted command lines above put in a cfg file)
EDIT: Install notes are now included with the rar archive.
UPDATE 1: I just decided to finally ditch motion blur. At first I liked it but without it the game just feels a bit more smooth, almost like there's a bit of a mouselag effect to motionblur (which effectively feels like a bit of mouselag). I'll save this effect for my DX10 card :)
Also I upgraded the shadow spec from 2 to 3 (medium to high) as I noticed the shadows kinda jittered and they looked a bit too low res (noticed this when I looked at my own shadow). 3/high seems better and overall from turning the shadows up and disabling motion blur, I got +1½ FPS in the benchmark and went from 22 to 23½.
Gaco's retail config 1.01 (http://rapidshare.com/files/70520424/gaco.retail.tweakconfig1.01.rar)
changes in 1.01 are:
added r_MotionBlur = 0
changed sys_spec_Shadows = 2 to sys_spec_Shadows = 3
You may like 1.0, I just prefer 1.01 for the time being, so just suit yourself ;)

Fantastic Gaco, you absolutely rock man!
Just a quick question, I'm using the partial DX9 tweak from your other thread, is there a big difference between that and this one? :)
Ditto on the DX9, can't believe how rubbish DX10 runs, night and day difference.

yeah there were a lot of things in his tweak that once I actualy went through his cfg was saying "wait I know that can be higher with no performance hit!"
This was more along the lines of what I was thinking.

I guess you meant me :)
I'll comment each anyway:
r_VSync=1
d3d9_TripleBuffering=1
I've tried it, but in the benchmark I never really saw any tearing with these on or off. I need to test it properly at some point, but as it resulted in a 0.2 FPS decrease (yes that's not much! :p), and since I can't see how it makes sense since the FPS won't go anywhere near 60 anyway, how could VSync work properly?
r_ssao_quality=1
r_ssao_amount=0.2
r_ssao_quality is 1 by default on low, medium and high. It's 2 on very high. I don't know what it does, but what's point of setting it to 1?
I don't know about the ssao_amount, you can elaborate on this if you want.
r_SSAO_darkening=3.6
Is this what makes the game dark? In that case I don't like it, looks unnatural and not the way the devs designed the game. The default value that server sets is 0.075 btw.
r_TerrainAO_FadeDist=1
r_HDRlevel=0.75
This is the bloom multiplier, the default is 0.6 - you can increase it for your taste, but I just prefer the way the devs meant it to be - they're the ultimate experts right? :D
r_ColorGradingDOF=0
Not sure what this does?
r_ShadowJittering=1
r_ShadowBlur=0
e_shadows_from_terrain_in_all_lods=0
e_shadows_max_texture_size=2048
q_ShaderShadow=1
e_gsm_lods_num=4
e_particles_lod=0.7
With shadows and particles I just prefer to set it using the predefined medium or high using the sys_spec command. Shadows doesn't seem to affect either framerate or image quality that much using single parameter changes, so I just prefer keeping it simple here :)
e_view_dist_ratio=60
From Mad Boris' guide: It controls view distance on rocks in the ocean and every human object(buildings, boxes, barrels, docks, everything showing a remnant a human exists in the world (except vehicles).
- I haven't really noticed any cultural / human made objects pop in so I left this as it is. Do you claim this doesn't have any influence on performance? I'd doubt it, but hapily take it if it's true :)
r_EyeAdaptationBase=0.2
r_EyeAdaptationFactor=1
I like the HDR eyeadaption factor as it is thankyou :)
r_Flares=1
r_Coronas=1
Both of these are set to 1 per default, so I don't see any reason for this ;)
r_TexturesStreaming=0
r_UseEdgeAA=2
r_sunshafts = 1
r_WaterGodRays 1
r_UsePOM=1
r_colorgrading=1
e_water_ocean_fft=1
e_vegetation_min_size=1.5
e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation=50
I have these :) (though I set e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation to 45 to match the same as very high setting - this mostly affects view distance of small vegetation like grass and bushes I think)

one thing that interest's me ,and it's a bit random, but you notice the command e_time_of_day provides the current time of day in the game. If you keep entering the command you can see it's updating, so would this mean if I loaded up and left the game that it would go through a complete day/night cycle on it's own ?

I know some of those I really have no idea what they do. Like all the SSAO (Screen space ambient occlusion) stuff.
Here's more info on that... which is apparently something groundbreaking in the 3d world.
http://www.ogre3d.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35778&highlight=
The PDF file in that first post, if you scroll down to the SSAO part, it's apparently a control for how the light and shadows are rendered. If this guy's tweak is too dark, perhaps lighting it up a little will work but seeing the pdf's with/without SSAO rendering it's a HUGE graphics difference so I can see where it could make the lighting more dramatic in the game.
So he may be onto something, it just may still need to be tweaked.
I'm wondering if SSAO is responsible for a big peformance hit and that by lowering it and changing the shadow levels he's sort of trying to compensate to get better frame rates and still have good looking shadows.

ok using all that guy's SSAO and HDR settings, I can see what he's trying to do but it needs work. The darker shadows I think make the game look better in pictures but the HDR isn't working well. It jumps from very bright to very dark too much and if you're staring right at the sun, your suit/gun are almost totally black. :thumbdwn:
I'm going to increase SSAO quality and HDR settings to see what happens but here are initial screen shots between what I was previously using and with this guy's settings.

ooooo k. I figured it all out for the most part. He was putting too much emphasis on the shadows and over doing the HDR. It was too extremes fighting each other for the same space and it wasn't working. For the position of the sun, the shadows were just too strong and the darks were much too dark to be belivable and the HDR glow was absolutely overkill.
I took 4 sets of those screenshots in those 4 different locations and changed a little bit each time. Going back to my original screen shots, they look all washed out and faded looking. The darker shadows do a better more dramatic job at wowing me with the lighting and the HDR is much better and less distracting.

It kind of makes me sad to see that the computer I am just about to build is already going to not be able to play this game on the highest of settings. Its still going to look really nice but this kinda makes me wonder about the next "big" game thats probably going to kick my computers ass. This hobby is way too expensive, but it is just too addicting to quit. It looks like my wallet is going to be empty for LONG time.
This is the one ill be using at the bottom of that post. Posted some comparison shots as well

Thanks for the configs everyone... I played the first few levels on high DX10, 1680x1050, and getting 20-35 frames, mostly around 25. Not great by any stretch, but the graphics are great and the game is certainly playable.
Outstanding game BTW.

What are those SSAO and HDR settings you have in those of your latest pictures pony? Care to share?
Also can someone tell me what the colorgrading command does?
