View Full Version : Crysis Single player is so so...
Ok so whos with me on this one? If you havnt beaten the game then don't even bother to post because it starts out good and then your rushed threw it all the way till the end. Only the first 2 levels are actually fun and vast in game options and exploration.
So who agrees that Crysis while good just wasn't all that it was hyped up to be... :(

Its fun, but truth be told it's just another shooter. Nothing about it makes it great. If performance was better with higher settings then maybe we could rant about the IQ and performance. But dropping IQ to make it playable is a big crutch to me. Gameplay and story are good but fall into the other games I'd consider to be some of the best SP experiences I've had like HL2, FEAR, Far Cry, Bioshock, Max Payne.
Overall it's a good game, worth playing through, but not the pinnacle of PC gaming like everyone thought it would be.

I've only played through a quarter of it, mainly just exploring and testing out my 8800GT for my review. I would say that so far, it's fun and all, but the performance lacking really hurts the game. I wish I would've just stuck with XP throughout the entire first run through the game, but oh well. Also, when you get to a helicopter riding your arse, missile launcher are a little hard to find IMO.

Overhyped imho.........

I dont know whats so bad about the campaign. Im having lots of fun with it, although i have to admit the 2nd and 3rd levels are pretty boring because it feels just like playing far cry all over again. But other than that its 3rd game ive played this year that actually feels right.

Just curious, what were the other 2 games you thought felt right?

bioshock and cod4?
my bigest issue what about halve way into the game it gets very scripted and linear. I think that they could have told the story without all that scripting...

At least it isn't as linear/scripted as COD4

This year, STALKER and Halo 3. Those are the only 2 other big games ive played this year.
Overhyped imho.........
nah, ya think?
Crysis is nothing except a really good and very pretty open ended shooter. Granted, it is semi-linear for the sake of story but what the hell were you guys expecting?
I'm enjoying it, though I don't fulfill the OP's requirement of actually completing the game(shame on me). I have a feeling however that I still won't be disappointed because I didn't believe Crysis was going to be God's gift to PC gaming in the first place. hooray for low expectations. :p
I said wait to finish the game first because it only gets worse as it goes on...

I'm not even half way and I feel it already :(
Contact and Rescue were the best missions, although some of rescue was meh.
I'm worried at this point, they showed us huge potential with the first two missions :/
oh and night missions in general suck
the rest of the game will suck oh and night mission is half way point.

Well I got done with 2 missions, and so far it's an ok game. I read some reviews and I (personally) think this game is much overhyped as the gaming revolution on the PC the mags said it would be. It's just an ok game with nice graphics. Hopefully I will have enough motivation to finish this game. I couldn't get through Bioshock 75% through because it became a chore.

Im about almost half way through now (I think, dunno how many levels are there.) And the game sure doesnt feel like another far cry execpt the part where you're at the harbour. Honestly the game doesnt feel tedious, so far at least. Every level you always get into a different environment and once in a while some surprises pop up just when you need it. My only huge gripe so far is the amount of bugs and glitches in the game, not to mention the system requirements. There were more than expected. Hopefully crytek releases that patch soon.

I enjoyed the game from start to finish, personally think it was more than worth the money. My only major gripe is I wanted to go back after the final battle and get prophet.
Missions are great otherwise and there is lots of variety, using run and gun, sabotage, tank driving, air craft flying, alien bashing and the alien level is just freaky surreal.

I'm only upto the tank battle, but I gotta say that mountain is one hell of a set piece. I'm loving it so far, getting better and better.

I think the game is awesome. What are you guys expecting? Lower your expectations and enjoy the freaking game. I hope people who havent played it dont read this thread.

Exact opposite here. This game gets better and better as it goes on. Fantastic variety of missions. Have had at least a good dozen 'OMG!' or 'WOW!' moments which most games rarely do. AI is not perfect but it is one the best I've seen in any SP shooter. They do react to dead bodies. Flares are constantly being sent off with more backup troops arriving. The CoD'esque level is top notch with chaos all over. Story is a bit thin but I never expect much from any game on story. Sounds are simply amazing. Hair on my neck stood up and I was so tense and freaked out in a certain spoiler scene; I won't ruin for anyone. Suit powers are great and turn this game from simply FarCry2 to a totally great game.
WTF more do you people want? This game is a 10/10 if there ever was one.
Crysis is GOTD contender for sure.
i thought the game was really getting better and better until the alien ship. Then indeed it did feel very rushed and linear. I'll probably still give it another play-through though..

Because it was linear :). I liked that last part, too. The core level was ok but only for one time.

I just got past that last night. I feel the game gets better as I go. The beginning and first couple missions were quite boring and there was no reasl story driving it. The perrformance is seriously the Achilles heal of this game. I really wish I could play with AA on and still get 60 -70 fps like all the other games that have just came out.
And scripting like in COD4 is fine with me. I don't mind scripting when it's well done and gameplay is exciting.. take me for the ride!
Personally I thought it was fantastic and absolutely buried games like HL2. It just got better and better.
As for the scripted stuff... it's hardly a bad thing. If it stayed the way it was from the beginning, it just would have become boring, repetative and pretty much just another Farcry. Nothing new. Thank god that didn't happen.
Instead, the action and story just got better and better. To be honest, the hype was nothing like the hype behind Bioshock and Halo 3, but it blew them both out of the water.
