I'm sitting down to install the X38 / QX9650 hardware tonight after work and I plan to continue to dual boot XP & Vista. The process got me thinking about SATA ACHI mode. I know XP needs special drivers for it (F6 at boot) and I'm thinking thats all it needs. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Would you guys choose to run your SATA drives with ACHI or IDE emulation (default)? Any problems with ACHI in either Vista or XP?

I run my Gigabyte 965G DS3's SATA ports in ACHI mode for my numerous Seagate Barracuda 7200.10s with no ill effect under XP32 and Vista 64 besides the driver issue, but you already know about that, and it's easily resolved by having a USB key with the drivers plugged into the system. Whether there's any advantage to it besides that of enabling RAID and NCQ, I don't know. But, yeah - go for it.
