And a whole lot of very angry carrer military men. The Korean and Vietnam era military machine was an absolute disaster. Widespread drug use among soldiers, disorderly conduct, it was just a mess.

No, by having an armed service staffed and run by willing soldiers you are creating an effective fighting force that at least starts out with excellent morale.

So while some of us go to college, or go to work, or raise families, or just be bums, others willingly choose to fight for their country. Thats the way it is. Thats the way it should be.
