All behold, the 2004 SVT Mystic Cobra!!!! BASF re-engineered the original 1996 Mystic paint that was in the 1996 SVT Mystic Cobra. BTW, this is not the lame crap that PPG sells. The BASF Mystic paint can only be purchased by authorized Mystic dealers or by the registered owner of a Mystic Mustang. This stuff is golden. If you have never seen one in the light, you're really missing out.

This is the original 1996 Mystic. Like I said, you can't really appreciate this paint unless you can catch it in real life. That hokey crap the hot-rodders use pales in comparison. It really is remarkable.

It's a rather risky car to own, however. A good friend has one, and it was keyed while he was at work. His insurance company had to fly a BASF employee from Michigan to Florida, where he rented a paint booth for the purpose and repainted the entire car. You can't touch this paint up or even repaint sections, that would produce an off grain and the paint would no longer fade like its supposed to.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled Iraq debates ;)

Yes, but they are all imitations of the BASF formula. FlexProducts developed the ChromaFlair pigments in 1994 and BASF bought the patents to them. They both worked together with Ford in 1995 to develop Mystic which went on the 1996 Mystic Cobra. That forumla is now owned by the Ford Motor Company, and BASF can't sell it to anyone other then Mystic Owners or the dealership that services the car.

So the REAL name for those color changing paints would by Mystic, but yes, its commonly refered to as Chameleon.
