Yeah i am really tempted in that need to save up alittle bit more as they are the kinda drives i need. HD and BluRay capable. Blue ray for burning for 50GB space!! They are well priced too cheaper then must standalone BluRay writers. Been eyeing it for the last couple of weeks.

I've heard some really good things about this drive, however, the software is limited for playback. I think the AnyDVD software that is included plays just fine, but only for 2.1 audio.

AnyDVD? I think you are talking about PowerDVD :)

Anyway I don't care about it, I already got a full PowerDVD version. Will report this weekend, as soon as I get this b*tch installed

That's what they have over at AVSForum. Most people buy the Jap version of Intervideo just to get 5.1.

I got to home, barely had time to put the drive in and turn on the PC. The first thing I noticed after firing PowerDVD with Batman Begins HD-DVD movie was a nice popup message saying that I must switch to VGA connection instead of DVI because my system is not HDCP compliant.

So WTF, I don't understand it, my monitor is Samsung SM244T, my videocard a GeForce 8800GTX and OS is Vista 64. All of the components are HDCP compliant, so it's because of the Forceware drivers?. They don't have WHQL signature, they are the latest 169.13 beta.

Anyway I have installed AnyDVD HD and woops, it works great, no more HDCP messages. I have just seen 10 seconds of movie because had to get back to work quickly but video quality was sooooo awesome. The amount of detail in faces is stunning. Will keep testing this weekend, maybe I burn the BD-RW disk included.

Blue ray for burning for 50GB space!!

What's the point? Even 2.5in disks have a better cost ratio.

I can buy 50gb bluray Sony disks at €19 when buying through the company I work for (no VAT or taxes, price for retailers). But yes, still quite expensive.

BTW the drive is great, it has a top-quality feeling. The sound of the tray opening, its softness... it is an expensive drive, but it also feels like an expensive drive. I'm connecting the PC to the HDTV today, we will see.

Am I right in thinking this drive will only read HD-DVD discs, not burn em?

LordJuanlo
12-09-07, 06:57 AM
Yes, it will only read HD-DVD and read/burn BluRay

Oh well. it's still a damn sight cheaper than most BluRay only drives. Are many places selling/renting movies on these formats in the UK?

Dazz
12-09-07, 07:28 AM
Yeah must Bluray only do 4x and only single layer for 260 while this drive reads HD DVD @ 3x dual layer burns at 2x and single layer at 4x, the sony drive which burns at 2x dual layer is 500.

Wrong, this drive burns BluRay single layer at 6x and dual layer at 4x. Although there is no media rated for this speed yet.

Novatech is wrong, look at it carefully: dual layer BD writing is faster than single layer?. No sense. Check this (http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/index.cfm?reviewid=1499) review, or the specs at overclockers.co.uk (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-065-LG).

I have the box on my hands right now and it clearly says 6x single layer / 4x dual layer, so trust me :)

Yes I trust you. :D

I checked at Scan UK, it matched what you said so it a typo in Novatech part, Write Speeds BD-R Single Layer: 2x is incorrect, it should been Write Speeds BD-R Single Layer: 4x.
