You might have a chip with poor contact between the cores and heat spreader. It happens.
Outside plumbing, heh... that's definitely another extreme measure you could go to. I once saw a guy running an underground line from his compressor in his garage to the back end of his PC.
sounds like our having a hell of a time :(

Anhow, she's up and running at 3GHz now, and temps are no where near what I was hoping for. I have several ideas as to why, I'll get into those a bit later. ;) Benches are comming up next! :D
I kinda had the same experience with the Freezone. I was expecting very low idle and load temps but in the end it was a huge disappointment. Even a Zalman 9700 performed better than the Freezone at 2.66GHz and 3+GHz with the QX6700. I've tried different things but nothing improved the cooling performance that much...
Imo those CoolIT products are either defective or simply not up to the task.

That's kinda' what I'm figuring. But since I bought this Eliminator specifically for my E6600 I figured it isn't worth the hassle to get it working proper on this rig, only to have to switch it over to another in a short period of time.
My temps are good though, so I'm happy. :D
Do you have the E6600 already dude?

Yes, but long story. ;)
In short, the rig wont be up and running till either next month or the month after. I have the E6600, the Intel Bad Axe mobo- just need the case, PSU, RAM, HDDs, Optical drives, video card(s) (*hint, hint ;) ) and I should be set. :p
I've had the E6600 + BadAxe for quite a while actually, bought 'em from Magus actually. :D Just haven't had the funds nor time to assemble the rig. And I'm not too concerned with the E6600 not being fast enough. The computer will be assembled first part of next year (meaning next month, month after that at the latest). Currently this Opty is plenty fast enough for me. If I am satisfied with the performance this Opteron offers, imagine the E6600 even if just at 3.2 - 3.4GHz. ;)

You know, since my computer is running so cool, I think I'm going to try my luck at 3Ghz. Will 200Mhz and maybe half a volt increase temps that much? I don't think so. I'm gonna' give it a whirl. :D

lol- got a little carried away and tried for 3.2Ghz. System wouldn't even post. Infact, I had to re-install the factory BIOS.
Okay, for now I'm back down to stock (2.6GHz, 1.325vcore). She's fast and cool- that's all I'm concerned with. :D
Dude all you need is Ram everything else in your sig is fine!!!1

Nah, this computer in my sig, is already spoken for. In other words I'm selling it. ;)

Some shots of the "new" cable management. Still quite cluttered looking IMO, but better than it was before.

Dude--compressed air FTW!!! (dust bunnies)
Does that GTS breathe OK that close to the bottom?
Your experimenting makes me wanna play around some.... If I had the time...

lol- yeah, I know. :o Everyday I have to clean out atleast one computer with compressed air and a vacuum. You'd think my rig would be clean as well. :p
As for the GTS- yeah, in fact my current temps are about 44*C.

QFT!!! Does your computer sit on the floor? It sure looks like it from that amount of dust. Gross.
And yeah that GTS looks like it's flush against the bottom of the case. I'm assuming it's just the angle of the pic?

No, if you look closely in the pics you should see my desk, and the little section of my desk the tower sits in.
And I know it's dusty- I hadn't opened the case since I first put this rig together (beginning of this year??? :o ). Out of sight, out of mind. :o I'll be buying some canned air tomorrow while at work, that's for sure.
As for the GTS, it is just the angle. It actually has near an inch (if not more) between it and the bottom of the case. As I said before- the temps on my GTS are super low- low 40's when "idling" and low 50's under heavy load. My proc never ever seems to exceed 50*C anymore, always stays right around 40-45*C. :D Me=happy. :p

That dust is obviously not hurting your cooling any!

lol- surprisingly!
And I forgot to get the canned air today. :( I'll try to get some tomorrow.
Yeah, my temps on this GTS are crazy low. I think having it low like that where all the cool air is really helps. I have a 140mm fan in the front of my tower as intake and a 250mm fan on the side panel for intake as well, then dual high-CFM 80mm's on the rear as exhaust. Works nicely.
As for my ambient temps- not scorching so that definitely contributes. Lowest it gets in my room is usually around 40*F at night. If we can get a good fire going in the evening and have it going strong most the night it actually stays right around 55-64*F in my room. Temps for my rig doesn't really change much though with or without the fire, as odd as that might seem.

Brrrr...I guess that explains most of it. We're at 70 during the day, down to 60 minimum at night. With those massive fans pushing that cool (ok, let's face it, COLD) air thru there, I'm sure that helps a lot!
