ok, im a bit confused here, can anyone clarify for me? I was under the impression that the 8800 GTS was going to be refreshed into a model called the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 and this was to be based upon the new G92 core. However after reading this site http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=474 it says that there will be a refresh of the GTS but it will be of the current G80 core.

Are there going to be 2 versions of the GTS? if so i think this could add to the confusion or are one of these rumours incorrect?

thanks.

There's actually 3 versions of the GTS, the eVGA 8800 GTS SSC is a g80 with a 112 shader core, and there will be a 128 shader 512MB GTS using g92, unfortunately Nvidia's naming scheme has become so irrational that they could be changing the different SKUs between GT and GTS on a daily basis for all we know. Frankly it doesn't matter what they call it, AFAIK the physical specs haven't changed much. Supposedly there was a 1024MB GT rumored to be in the works too, along with a dual g92 card (think 7950GX2).

96sp 320-bit 320MB/640MB g80 = 8800GTS
112sp 256-bit 256MB/512MB g92 = 8800GT
112sp 320-bit 640MB g80 = 8800GTS SSC (evga)
128sp 256-bit 512MB g92 = 8800GTS (dec 11th)
128sp 384-bit 768MB g80 = 8800GTX/Ultra

edit - didn't save the spacing in my chart after I posted, sorry if it's hard to read. Also, seems like the 512MB GTS is set for a dec 11th release now.

I dont think the 1gb GT was an official product but a possible vendor mod like the 1gb 8600

I still doubt the g92 GTS will have 1gb straight off the bat ,But i'm hoping.

Cool, thanks for clearing that up. I think im just going to steer clear of the GTS altogether now, it gives me too much of a headache in the decision process :) especially when i think of all the manufacturers producing different flavours of all these cards with their own naming schemes ala XFX ALPHA DOG XXX version.
