View Full Version : Religion is a Brain Disorder?
Atleast thats what this study implies... bound to make a lot of people mad :)

Or maybe that's the norm, and the lack of religion is the disorder.... ;)
The article seems confined to those who've had some sort of religious vision. There are probably hundreds, thousands, millions of people who would consider themselves religious who have never had visions like that.
Now dreams. There's another can of worms.... ;) :p
Cheers,

It's not that it makes religious people mad, it's that it is terrible reporting. It starts out trying to make a connection between religion and a brain disorder by way of using people whom do have disorders. Then it shifts to the people they intended to talk about. Still it tried to make a sublte point at the beginning. Nope, no agenda here.

I'm not religious, therefore I’m perfect.
I'm not going to believe in a god just because someone says he is real. I want proof. :p
or it could be that this "dis"order was caused supernaturally ;)

Mostly Agnostic myself, there really isn't a word that says believes in a higher power, yet doesn't believe in religion.
Too much crap goes on for me to willing join a church, mosque or synagogue(sp?).
Best be done with it, and lose the stupid restrictions of technology and advance the human race.

Yes there are. "Diest" is a word that describes someone who believes in a god but does not follow any religion. You could also call yourself a "Thiest" which is the opposite of "Atheist" but does not imply a particular religious affiliation.

Hey, you and I actually agree on something.

Diest, thanks!
Good to see there are others who've seen the crap spit out over the centuries. But in saying that I feel I'm being a bit unfair as some have done a great deal of good too.
This just hit me, I remember a Jesse Ventura (yup that one) describing religion as for "the weak minded", I actually agreed with him, I think too many use religion as a crutch to free them of the responsibility of thinking for themselves.

Actually, as I remember, and it has been awhile ago, a diest is one who believes in a higher power that is removed from the creation or exists outside of... However, a person could believe in a higher power which is in nature and could also believe that we are the embodiment of, manifestaton of, whatever that higher power. In that case, they could be a pantheist, rather then a deist. A follower of certain American Indian tradition might not be classifiable as a Jew, Christian, Muslim, etc...and yet they do believe in something of a spiritual sort. But they don't hold nature as having to be seperate from it...aka a pantheist.
Theist would be more general IMO...
BTW, I'm not sure I would say belief in a higher power, or some sort of belief (of which we all believe something...even if it is that our senses are an effective means to observe the world around us or what not) is a brain disease in and of itself. The incident of religious fanaticism and intollerance, could be questioned as a disorder of some kind however. I mean, how in one's right mind can many of these fanatics be who run around killing off and destroying anyone who simply believes different from them?

I have found my new sig...... thank you. That is one of the most rediculas things i've heard in my life.
I am Roman Catholic and I don't see visions. Why?
I try and be a better person.
Well I had a dream that I was staring at a tree, eventually that came true.

Making that conclusion just because there are some people with religious deliriums is not quite right...
You don't have faith when you have visions, neither the opposite.
Happy those who believe without seeing.
And that's only eye-sight, you can see in other ways.
People that don't know Jesus, don't have faith, and didn't experience God's actions in their lives, probably will think like these "wise" persons.

No one should. Just take a look. No one would change his life just because "someone" said something. That would be lame.

Ignorance I read? What has technology to do with religion????
