Im about to build a new computer and I currently own XP pro and I want to dual boot both XP and vista. I had a few questions about it. First off on how to do it. I heard you just first install XP and then install vista on a separate partition. Is that the correct way on installing? Also i was wondering after you have the dual boot setup correctly will you need to install software twice? Once on XP and once on Vista? Id imagine you would have to. Also any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes you need to do XP before installing Vista.

Yes you need to do XP before installing Vista.
1. Make XP partition of your choice and install XP.
2. Make Vista partition of your choice and install Vista.
Once both are installed, Vista will install it's own boot loader so that way you can choose either OS. Good luck and know we are here to help.

Once its all installed do I have to install the software (i.e Video games and programs) twice? One on each operating system? Or do I only have to install it once?

Its an awesome program for configuring the boot process and boot menus in Vista. :)
Just be careful. Only change things you know you should change. ;)

If you have the hardware to handle Vista and it looks like you will then there is really no need to waste your time with dual booting. A few months ago I would have recommended it but its no longer necassary as long as you take the time to install the proper hotfixes found on nvidia.com and ms updates. Also make sure to use the latest drivers from nvidia.

He stated he wanted to dual boot, not single boot.

ROTF. Yeah and that personal mission is to stop all of the horrindus misinformation floating around in regards to vista from idiots like yourself and a few others around here.
All one has to do is look right here- http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=103236
But yeah ryan, dont mind me. After all I am the only person around here who can actually provide evidence which supports his claims.
How about you quit derailing Ryans thread on dual booting with your Vista propaganda?

If I wish to tell someone that they are wasting their time dual booting I will. Kinda the same way you go around spreading your FUD about something you cant afford even when people didnt ask you for it.
He asked for help doing it, not if he should or not.
His mind was set when he made the OP.

For christ's sake will you two give it a rest?
Tr1ck, if you have a problem with GeeeEighty, PUT HIM ON IGNORE. Following him into threads and stirring him up only causes problems.
GeeeEighty, quit calling people names and quit taking everything so damned seriously. If you want to be a contributing part of this community, lighten up.

Sorry Capt, im done with the kids for good now and will make use of the ignore button myself.
Apologizes with a condescending tone, gee that's real sincere.
I triple boot into three operating systems (ok i'm a geek) , Vista home premium 32, Vista Ultimate 64 & XP Pro 32, it's great!
BUT XP 32 IS WAY BETTER FOR GAMING!
:captnkill:
& yes i run everything as a mirror of the other drives, all games & software, everything, which is great for comparing performance.
If i lose 1 drive (which i've done many times over the years!) i allways have everything as was on another.

pff, only three? I had 4 before I reinstalled. :p (XP / Vista 32 & 64) I reinstalled with dual boot because I didn't even activate the 64bit installs last time. I keep using XP 32 as well because I can use it as a baseline when I'm having issues. If it runs like garbage on XP 32, I know it's not going to get better on Vista.

My brother is in r&d for western digital, these are new custom spec drives that are yet to hit the marketplace, manufactured as test drives late last year.
