Ok, let us discuss in points, please no BS like "XP rulez" or "Vista rulez you xp suckA", if you want to support your words, provide proofs to it.

Let's begin, lots of gamers, like me, upgrade to Vista just for the lovely DX10, but things are not always be that good, first I want to tell you all what my system is so you guys won't make stupid reply like "your computer sucks, go back to XP" or "Hey, not enough RAM, this is like running XP with 512mb of memory".

My system:
CPU: Intel C2D E6600 OC'ed@3.2G
RAM: Gskill 4GB (4GBPK)
MOBO: P5B D-WIFI
Video Card: 8800GTX
OS: Vista 64BIT ultimate

Actually, the only games we can run smoothly in DX10 mode, are Bioshock , Lost planet and WiC, no more, other games like Hellgate, Crysis, Company of Heroes, GoW can't be consider smooth in DX10 because it seems lots of players have issue with it.

It' comes to my attendtion that Microsoft failed to do what it is promised, DX10 should be faster (performance) than DX9, but no, I can run everything on highest with AA in HGL and smooth like butter in DX9 but laggy like hell in DX10, So don't even think about Crysis, you guys know the answer.

So, is it really a good choice to run Vista while you just can't play all of the games in DX10 with the high video settings? Vista is buggy than XP atm, less hardware support than XP, no EAX support, and slow file reading time, if the reason why we can't play our games in DX10 smoothly is because our hardware, then why not we stick with XP until the next-gen hardware out?

Guys, don't turn this post into a flame war, try to discuss in a "polite" way, I want to hear you guys opinions. ;)

PS: Again, I will list which game is smooth under DX10 and which is not.

Smooth title:
Lost Planet, GoW ( but not everyone ), Bioshock, WiC.

Laggy Title:
CoH, Crysis ( main reason "could" be our hardware aren't powerful enough ), Hellgate London. ( not to mention the upcoming games, like FarCry2 and more )

Its not worth it upgrading from xp to vista, however, its not worth going back to xp if you already have vista installed.

I agree with Absolution, keep your XP till at least service pack 1 for Vista is out. I used to dual boot, but too lazy to install both XP and Vista after hard drive reformat.

I dual boot, using XP for gaming and Vista for fun.

No point. If you have all the time in the world to look around, get the patches, get the right drivers..mix n match them with every game..then yea go for it..but if you want to just turn your PC on..get into the game..hassle free..then don't bother.

no reason to get vista unless you want to have 4GB+ ram and you dont already have XP 64bit.... dx10 is pretty useless right now... only games worth playing in dx10 are bioshock, call of juarez and lost planet

I jumped on the Vista bandwqagon pretty early and I'm pretty much underwhelmed so far. Vista is pretty solid and the drivers are finally getting pretty good, but DX10 has been a big disappointment IMO. The promised performance increases have not materialized and the AA support has gotten worse. I never imagined that DX10 would mean no AA support in so many titles. Thankfully Nvidia has done a pretty good job of bypassing some of the AA issues. (It must really suck for ATI Vista users.)

To be honest, I do regret upgrading to some extent, but the investment in time and money getting my system running Vista has already been spent and I'm not going back.

If you have money to blow, go for it. If not, you aren't missing anything.

It seems gamers love XP more for some reason which I can understand, the only bad thing for me is that I don't have the XP-64bit version, which will wasted my 4GB of ram if I go back to XP-32bit.

I have been using Vista Business sense March and all I use this PC for IS gaming and love it. I can't think of any game that I had to work to get to run right for me, was all easy install and go for me. nVidia drivers have improved tons and the only game I ever had not run smooth was Crysis... but who can run that on true Very High anyway? (A few tweaks and i was able to run it smooth on DX10 mode with some Very High features enabled). I might be one of the few, but for me, it was worth it. I like the interface and I have never *knock on wood* had Vista crash once on me :) Try dual booting at first if you don't want to dive right in. Worth noting is I am using 32-bit version at the moment... even though I can only see 3GB of my 4GB of ram... it still runs great!

I have had no issues and vista runs just fine for me. As for the lousy performing dx10 titles...Maybe it's just how things are being coded. The good performing games prove it can be done. Either way I don't regret upgrading to vista.

I have not had any issues with Vista as well. For the longest time I was dual-booting XP and Vista. But I honestly never used XP so I just formated that drive and installed Kubuntu on it. :D

My experience is that Vista neither helps nor hinders gaming. I use Vista 32bit exclusively. There are finally enough drivers around to use most of my hardware. Despite the benchmarks that have been shown around, XP is still faster in nearly every game. Not by much, but it simply is, from my own tests. The bottom line for me is that Vista doesn't really provide any significant value to gamers. Sure there is DirectX 10, but that is an artificial limitation and it will not make games look better. It should make games run faster but that has not been demonstrated yet. The main thing I like about Vista is the improved security. That comes at the cost of usability however. If you were to buy a new system, I'd definately recommend Vista. If you were considering an upgrade to help gaming, it's a waste of money right now, so get it when it's cheap, or you upgrade etc.

If Microsoft had done a good job on Vista these articles would not continuously be appearing.

ASD if you have 4G of RAM you will not be sorry if you upgraded to Vista 64.

I have a very similar spec to you and run vista 32 ultimate and can say i have NEVER had any problems running ANY of my games.

As long as you get the right upto date drivers for your hardware you will be just fine.

I have been using vista for all my gaming since February. There were some early problems due to poor gfx drivers but currently I am happy with the performance I am getting.

I use Vista as my living room rig HTPC with ultimate and it plays games alot better than my XP box. Only issue is older games that didn't have a big following.

Other than that if your just gaming only don't bother but you will be suprised when you move up and you will see what alot of us fanboys are talking about.
