lol, so my HD crashes last nite and this morning twice. I lost some data(all my photoshop work, 3ds and MAya work, eh, reports, essays, videos and programs), had to repair WinXP from the CD and now I am looking to make a backup of what is left(thank god I have a somewhat recent drive image, i.e, 2 months ago , on another 80 Gig).
It was only an 80GB WD HD(wow that went on forever didn't it? ) so now I am kinda eh, lookin' for a new HD that isn't too expensive lol, no smaller than 80 GB and no less that ATA 100 and 7200 RPM, is WD the only good brand or do you guys recommend something else that can save me some cash?
I don't even know how this comp is still workinghttp://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/attachment.php?s=&postid=105411

lost your "videos" eh? :p
Well, I can't recommend an HD, but if it ever happens again, use something like this (http://www.finaldata.us/products/products_overview.php) to recover your lost files (before you repair WinXP).

I have 2 Western Digital drives, and one of them has been causing me problems for quite awhile, and I have also lost a lot of important data because of it. If I were you, I would go for a 8MB cache Maxtor or one of the Hitachi/IBM 180GXPs.

I have an 8MB cache 80GB Maxtor drive and it's served me quite well. It's very fast, and I havn't heard of any reliability issues. I noticed that they're selling a 8MB cache Maxtor 200GB at Fry's for $180.

Good call! Always keep everything, in case of something just like this occuring to myself.

I think it may have been a faulty IDE cable that killed my drive, gonna get some new rounded ide cables as soon as the drives arrive. Too bad I can't get Vantec to replace my ruined hard drive:D
