View Full Version : zalman VF900 vs VF1000?
Can the VF900 be installed onto the 8800GTX? Do you need to buy memory modules for it like the VF1000?
Also, for the VF1000, do you have to buy the memory coolers? Can you just use the stock memory Heatsinks?

You don't have to buy memory coolers for the VF1000, it comes with them.

You have to for the 8800s.

But expensive and inefficient.
Inefficient? My friend, you are very misinformed.
+1
my friend's 8800GT with stock cooling...
idle: 52-54c
load: 70-73c (crysis)
my friend's 8800GT with vf1000...
idle: 40-42c
load: 50-52c (crysis)

you call that inefficient?
By inefficient I meant compared to the price. It costs around 80 dollars for that thing and it cools significantly worse than the Hr-03, which costs less than 50 dollars, and less than 60 dollars with a 120mm fan.

?
My VF1000 came with 8 little blue heatsinks for memory that are installed right now, as in the above picture. Mine didn't cost $80 either - more like $50.

You got it wrong, you need to buy the ram heatsinks.
The heatsinks cost another 30 dollars as I have already explained if you have bothered to read what I wrote.

8800gtx = rhs88
8800gts = no rhs88
8800gtx = rhs88
8800gts = no rhs88
That's not true, the GTS also needs the heatsinks.

Here is a review of an 8800GTS with the VF-1000 and no RHS88:

What does that do at all? I was comparing it to the Hr-03, which comes with the heatsinks. Zalman made the RHS88 in order for it to work with the 8800 series. Just because they didn't use it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be used. Even with the RHS88 the VF1000 performs worse than the HR-03, which costs 30 dollars less.
As zalman said and how the thing was designed, you NEED the ram sinks. Just because someone doesn't heed to that requirement doesn't mean that it shouldn't be used.
Just because a guy drove a car without a seatbelt doesn't mean that the seatbelts are not needed.

Does the RHS88 work with the 8800gt? i heard somewhere that it doesnt. It would seem kinda wierd that the vf1000 would work but the RHS88 wont.
I have the BFG 8800 GT OC2 version (675\1674\975) ... mmy cards idle temp at the moment is 46c ..... under crysis load it gets to around 65c - 70c! ... im happy with my VF900-CU ... before i applied the fresh AS5 and this cooler i was getting idle temps of around 55c and in the 90c's load and that was with 60% fan speed .... although ill be fair, its always really warm in here!
