View Full Version : Sloooooooooooow Internet
My ADSL internet bandwidth has slowed down to a crawl.
My USB modem's taskbar icon shows my upload/download bandwidth as 448/5728 (Kbs), yet web pages take an eternity and a half to display. What gives?
I've tried reinstalling the modem drivers, doing a registry clean up, scanned for viruses... same story.

What ISP you with?
Unfortunately everybody in the UK with ADSL cant get bandwidth they need, ADSL cant manage to achieve the full speed. Like Sky 16MB broadband for example, people cant get 16MB download speed as advertised so they get 4MB download speed instead, not bad for £10 every month compared to £25 I paid for 4MB cable with full bandwidth.
Maybe it could be a problem with USB, you could try Ethernet cable.
I'm with AOHell.
My Ethernet modem refuses to work at all atm, hence the use of the USB modem. Still, in the past my USB modem could attain internet speeds of 2GB and upwards.
I just ran an online bandwidth test, and the results yielded 120Kbs download rate :(.

So apparently my ISP (Shaw) just added some new feature where you get a 5-20 second boost in your speed when you download something...I am paying for 10 mbit down but when I do a speed test I get 18 mbit :D And I just downloaded the Office 2007 SP1 (200 MB) at 1.6 MB/s!!! I love it when companies make something that is already great, better and don't charge you more for it!

They worked out its better to get you in and out with the downloads instead of having lots of peeps dl'ing at a slower rate.
Makes a lot of sense, having high speed is kind of pointless 90% of the time
I did that Talk Talk offer last year, free broadband with steady 4MB download speeds, no download limit & free phonecalls 24/7, cost me £24.99 a month, very happy.
