RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.
Good call. Even though what he did was terrible I still think certain groups and people were judging him harsher than the crime. Its as if he killed a human being and if he had done that I think he would received less public scorn. A senator got up and actually cried, never in all my years have ever seen that, not for our boys and girls dying in battle or even for more despicable and anal acts. Hell I have seen drunk drivers that wipe out families get sentences comparable to that. Lets hope this guy learns his lesson though.

I agree. People try to make out that he was a monster or something. I believe the punishment fit the crime.

That was disgusting...I don't like what he did, but it doesn't deserve the coverage and sheer scorn the case got either, when compared to other atrocities in this country.

Yea...I have to wonder about a person that will get all worked up over a dog dying opposed a child dying. I do not like anyone being cruel to animals, but some of these people that get worked up over stuff like this really don't have their priorities straight.

So you can drown, hang, electrocute, and beat defenseless animals to death and still not be considered a monster?
Say's alot about your culture.

Tygerwoody= preppy monster. :p
Don't get me wrong.....what he did was bad...and he deserved to be punished. I just don't see this on the same line as a serial killer or something like that.

umm... he tortured animals, I'm pretty sure he is more than capable of doing that to a human. I wouldn't trust him around anyone.
On top of his illegal gambling he has cruelty to animals and other violations, it should have added up to more than just 23 months especially for multiple counts. What he got was a slap on the wrist.

A federal prison and 23 months is more than a slap on the wrist.

for what he did no way, he will most likely not serve all of those 23 months anyways. He should have been sentenced to five years.

+1. I love dogs. I know that this isn't the same as killing a human being or anything but still, Vick should've received more than just 23 months. And just like Bu said, he probably will get out earlier than that just because he has the cash.

btw 23 months in federal prison is enough time.
You tree hugging hippies need to stop whining so damn much. 2 years is a HUGE amount of time to be in a facility like that. He isn't going to Paris Hilton getaway resort. He's going to federal pound me in the ass Prison. Theres quite a bit of difference there.
Trust me, by the time Michael Vick is out of prison, he will not only become a dog lover, but he will also become a "dog" lover as well.

My dad worked as a butcher, and he sliced cows up into itty-bitty pieces, but that doesn't mean he would, or even could, do the same to a person.
I believe what Vick did was wrong...but being from rural Oklahoma, where agriculture is big business, it is difficult to view him as a "monster" when tons of family members and friends of mine kill COUNTLESS animals every year so others can have food on their table.
Many good people I know kill animals for profit...not too different than what Vick did. I guess the big difference is the "torture" part though. I don't know anyone who tortures animals, or would condone it.

I was about to flame you until I read the last part of your post. What Vick did has nothing to do with what other people do for their profession. There simply is no comparison.
Personally, I think he should have gotten more time. Then again, I say that about nearly every court case. We have rapists, pedophiles, and murders who are running around who deserve to spend the rest of their lives in prison (or worse) but are walking the streets instead. Proportionally, Vick got what he deserved. I think his status might have gotten him a year or two less, but at least he will spend a year in jail. (You have to remember about "good behavior")

Fine - ship him to Eagle Pass instead.
And make him listen to PETA propaganda. Harsh enough? :) Honestly, serial child molesters get less coverage. Why?

Because most serial child molesters aren't star quarterbacks.
Anyway I think he did get off easily. Torturing, fighting, and killing dogs is definitely grounds for the label of "monster".

Slaughtering livestock and dogfighting are two very different things. The comparisons you guys are drawing here are ludicrous.
I'm surprised. I thought he would get a lot more due to failing the pee test, etc. I hope this leads him away from the 'thug life' that so many of our star athletes like to lead. I hate really hate the whole 'gangsta' image.
