Divx is doing a holiday special where you can download their program and get a serial to register the Divx player and the divx converter.
http://www.divx.com/dff/index.php?version=win
I have downloaded and installed the package, and had my serial e-mailed to me, so I can verify it's still working. Like I said though, it's only the Player and the Converter that will be registered with the serial you receive, not the MPEG2 plugin or the authoring software, so you don't even need to install that stuff if you don't want to.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'm going to grab this. It is a bit more handy now that XBox360s can play Divx files.

How long does it take to get the Serial #?

does it actually work in vista 64bit? i stoped using divx, when they were taking their sweet time to make 64bit version to be compatible with media center. FFDshow works much better.

I have it installed in Vista 64 right now and it seems to work. I only installed it to get the serial # for their Compressor. For decoding, I tried it once because it associated itself to decode all mpeg-4 files on install, but I disabled it once I noticed :).
so basically you get a crappy player and a even worse converter for free? To bad they don't include the pro codec or any thing use full

Only a few minutes, already got my serial ...

Mythy: Your suppose to get a serial number so you can unlock the full pro codec not just the trial version that is installed by default.
I am still waiting for the email. So far nothing that's why I was wondering how long it took to get the serial number.

Well, it is probably in your junk e-mail. Mine was in my inbox in seconds from me installing the program.

I don't use a junk mail filter I have a "free offers" email address that I can turn off if I ever think it's spammed too much. I'll just reinstall it and try again.

maybe i wasn't clear. codec will work in 32bit programs (32bit WMP11, etc...) but what i'm asking for, did they finally write 64bit codec, for 64bit WMP11, and media center.

Ok I reinstalled and got a serial immediately using a different email address. I think the divx automated system didn't like my other email address because the word spam is in it ;).
nekrosoft13: Oh :), sorry nope I don't use WMP11 64bit I play everything with MPC which is 32bit.

I have the 64 bit Divix and they work in Media Center. I searched for them for around 30 minutes, but I lost the link. I could upload them if you still need um.

Yes, I would like the DivX 64-bit version non-beta for Windows Media Player 11 since I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Edition. Thank you! Please post the url link.

So if you have the DivX x64 Codec program click on the program and then click on about it should give you the website's direct url link if not then you in most cases don't even have the program you're talking about.
or you would host it. I'm sure it's a pre-beta release or another program such as this one...here's the link: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/VistaCodecs-x64Components.shtml
mmmm..I'll stick with Xvid. ^^

i'm quite sure there is no 64bit divx codec.

Divx? They actually charge money for that? What a waste.
A proper mpeg-4 encode is done using h264, far superior to WMV, divx, xvid, and theora in both compression and quality, and not to mention the industry standard for mpeg-4 encoding.
Do so via already the free x264 codec using various different free software out there depending on your particular needs. I don't know why people continue using other stuff.

You are all wrong!
Graphic Interchange Format is the best to use.

lol, after all that send the email to get a serial BS, I just uninstalled it after it wouldn't work in the 2 apps I would use the codec with. It only seemed to work with their converter program.

A proper mpeg4 encode? so what the hell have we been encoding for the past oh... 8 years? A proper mpeg4 encode is a movie that uses mpeg4's simpilist profile with the only special effects turned on being bi-directional frames. Why? Because thats only what %99 of the mpeg4 capable portable players and dvd players support. This is also of course, the only reason you should be using xvid/divx, is to get movies onto your portable. Sure I guess you could use x264, but its so cpu intensive at solid bitrates that I wonder if its actually a contender for small portable movie files.
I dont wanna downplay x264.. I love the format. It does great dvd rips (1cd and no noticable quality loss ftw) and its fantastic for HD, I couldn't live without it. Doing HD in xvid/divx (ie, mpeg4's stripped down profiles) is just stupid. But I think we should keep em seperated. ^^
