Is this even possible?

Nice numbers , but not something i'll pay money to get esp with all the SLI issues & the cost needed.

I guess this is probably what Crysis was designed for.

Can anyone explain how you can double your performance by adding a third card?

What do you mean ? the numbers are in order :
15fps on Single 8800U
27fps on 8800U SLI
37fps on 8800U Tri-SLI

(theoretically 15x3 = 45fps).

EDIT : Ah i see you are talking about the min.fps
i guess there was some kind of limitation on the min fps for the single card.

Yeah, but I am having a hard time grasping what kind of limitation that would be...

Usually you hear people claim that the CPU effects minimum frame rate most, but this leads me to believe that minimum fps is GPU related, if it scales so well with each additional card.

It seems to scale well, but, still the performance is horrible in that game.

The other charts show most games being very playable (100fps+) @ 2560x1600 w/ 4xAA and 16xAF or higher. Great if you have a 30 inch monitor I guess. Maybe D9E tri-SLI will make Crysis playable at that resolution

Reasons why I'll never get a 2560x1600 display. :D

IMHO....Pretty expensive even for us enthusiast to spend that much flow for just one game dont you guys think?

wouldnt the next gen GPU play Crisis a whole lot better, and SLI has not exactly faired well of late.

I posted this in a thread earlier but the thread must have been removed. My question was, according to nvidia, their main focus ATM is getting SLI and tri-SLI to work propperly, particularly on the GT. But is it gonna work on the current GT's using the PCI-E 2.0 bus or is there gonna be a updated card with two connectors on top of the card?

“We decided that the refresh that we would do this time was [GeForce] 8800 GT, and this is just a barn burner refresh. We are really proud of the 8800 GT and we are going to put our focus here. From [two GeForce] 8800 GT [graphics cards], you could obviously do SLI and soon you’ll be able to do three-way SLI, so you are going to be able to put a lot of GPU horsepower into your system, starting with a very affordable 8800 GT, and so – this is our focus for now,” Jen-Hsun Huang, the chief executive of Nvidia, said during a question and answer session with financial analysts when asked about a possible “halo” product refresh in 2007.

I would rather see what next gen Nvidia looks like.

Agree, SLI is useless without good chipsets.

And without good drivers

I would still rather have the new card coming out in Feb 08.intead of messing with more cards.

At least it'll be intresting seeing if it work OK. I wonder how many games will work / be patched to use it?

Yea, it's hard to say. Hopefully if the games scale good on two cards, it shouldn't be a big leap to have them working on 3. Using AFR it still works the same except now each card only has to render every 3rd frame.

+1

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they might be on water. :D
