The inquirer had done it again
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=9040
The NV40-DX9 chip will have PS/VS 3.0 functionality and sophisticated OpenGL 2.0 fragment shading capabilities. 8?1 (only) plain architecture with two universal floating/integer ALU and one TMU on each pipe. So no more sophisticated schemes like 4?2 or 8?1 depending on the application, only raw power.
Believe it or not ?

not.
Not this year and i doubt they will leave the path they started with the NV3x line.
Sure the NV30 is not that good as expected because of the delay but the core idea behind that architecture is good because in the long run it saves transistors.
You don't need to double everything on the core logic to get a massive performance boost.
I think the time with fixed 8*1 or *2 or whatever is over.
3dlabs did the first step, nvidia followed and i think they will continue to do that.
BS.
Looks like they've been ripping off B3D as well (yet again).
MuFu.
NV40 isn't going to debut this year. Sure, it'll be ramping up at the end of the year (if things stay on track), but it won't be released until basically this time next year, maybe a little earlier.
Oh, and the ATi information is wrong too. Missing a vital component.
Ah yes, I didn't notice that. :)
Still... pretty disgusting journalism as usual.

I think NV40 highly unlikely it will debut this year.
Lets see.
Is it the R9900 that is wrong about ATI ?
Yep. That's not the 9900. They've basically listed the 9800 with DDR2, which is - strangely enough - still a 9800 :)
Which, btw, still won't be enough to hold the lead against the NV35. Hence the 9900. However, they are right that the NV30/31 are going to quickly disappear, and certainly won't be around come the years end - It will be NV34/NV35/NV36.

Hmm... I dunno, mate. Probably not outright, but I won't be suprised if it is about the same speed or even has a slight edge overall. Unfortunately, I suspect the NV35 will romp it when they get to wield their CineFX bat (lol).
Should be good though. Said this before but it's worth saying again - R390 will probably be faster than R400 would have been in current titles.
MuFu.
I don't know, it really depends what they do with the clockspeeds. DDR-2 alone won't help them enough, i doubt - certainly not at the same clock speeds. Then again, they'd have to push the clock speeds to separate the two memory types and overcome the latency issues, so i guess it's a moot point. The NV35 won't walk away with it, but i think overall it will be the clear winner.
Unless ATi are *very* conservative with the core/mem speeds on the 9900, however, it should win in most situations. But as you say, CineFX....
I agree... the memory doesn't figure too much. GDDR2 is more for bragging rights than anything else. The 380/340Mhz board isn't exactly starved for bandwidth. So the core clock is going to be the crucial factor. C'mon 425Mhz... :D

I believe they have decided not to be already. It's in the system-level draft.

The InQueerer is the dumbest site on the internet. Their 50/50 journalism is a joke. The site is what it's meant to be: "The National Enquirer"...
Maybe they should of used the name: http://www.cryingwolf.com LOL!!!
The day I believe anything coming from that site is when I live on the Moon and we all know when that will happened! LOL..

What I don't like is the way they steal the conclusions of hours and hours of discussion from forums like B3D and then intersperse it will misinformed bullcrap. It'd be better if they just stuck to plagarism!

Ok. Which one will be faster?
9800 Pro 256MB at core/mem 400/800 OR NV35 256MB at core/mem 400/800 ?
So even if NV35 faster than a 9800 Pro 256MB, there is the R390.
The question is will the R390 come out by year end ?

The thing is we won't be able to find out where they get their information from.

The NV35 should be faster than the 9800, but it will be reasonably close.
The R390 is definitely coming out in the Fall.

Then ATI will be the winner this year.
Unless NV40 .....

And by then it is a battle of OEM's and general mainstream buyer potential, who as the biggest brandname...

My predictions for graphics card launches:
NV35--paper at E3, retail in June
NV35 "refresh"--256 megs DDR2, probably October/September
R350 "refresh" (390?)--GDDR2, probably October/September as GDDR2 prices come down
NV40--January/Feb 2004
R400--March 2004
NV40 is at IBM, R400 is at TSMC. So until TSMC proves that it can make .13 micron chips decently, ATI is giong to have to delay launches to avoid product shortages...

I think the an intresting part in the article is they deny the existant of the NV34/31.
the NV34 is already for sale on ebay (grr i really hate ebay) and other places like monarch computer. They seem to be selling quite well on ebay (ebay'ers are wowed by buzzterms and would rather pay more for on ebay then buy it for less money at a store).
NV31 im still assumeing it will hit stores, the review sites all have em.

They're not denying the current existence of them, just the future survival of them - and with good reason. Sorry to quote myself here, but:

is the nv31 the fx5200? I bought that on ebay for $60 and I think its a good deal, heck I paid more than that for my ti200

Nope, the NV34 is the fx5200, your ti4200 is way better

I think he meant GF3 Ti 200.
Ahh the Inquirer with its daily dose of bs.

The NV34 is the GeForce 5200 {ultra} and are Nvidia's new low end cards.
To be kind: the non-ultra FX5200 blows.
Even you knew that: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10212

I believe the R350 will compete favorable against the NV35. I also think the NV35 will be faster than the R350 without the eye candy {ani and AA} turned on. However, it sadly appears NV35 will have the same old fsaa {and likely ani}. What is the use of having all these fps when image quality is below par? :bleh:
Also don't forget ATI can drop R350 prices when the NV35 does show up.
