Gainward FX 5600 Ultra (http://www.darkcrow.co.kr/index.asp)

Currently this is the only Nvidia card (The GFFX 5600 Ultra) that I would consider getting.

But I still might want to wait to see about NV36.

I think they are pretty good, except for the FX 5800 and 5800 Ultra mainly because of how hot they get and the noise and cost of them.

The 5600 Ultra seems like a good chip. If performance is close to ATI 9600 I would probably get the 5600 Ultra (And perf seems pretty close).

I still want to wait to see about NV36. My GF3 Ti200 plays all my games great, so no need to buy anything yet.

And if liking Nvidia video cards makes me a retard, so be it pinhead!

Marcocom, your post is unwarranted and completely off topic. The post is to discuss the Gainward 5600Ultra pros, cons, etc. Not Nvidia bash. Look I think we all agree that the NV30 series of cards so far has had many issues with benchmarks, noisy fans, etc, but christ is it really necessary you thread crap? Let's stay on topic here!

Badash - I agree, that of the FX series thus far that Gainward 5600Ultra would be the only card I would consider. However being a GF4-TI4400 owner already, I don't feel a need to upgrade right now. When a DX9 game comes out that I want, then I'll buy, but by that point the next generation of cards should be out anyway. ;)

you better be able to list alot of good reasons why! cuz let me tell ya, i can go into the forum archives and come up with one hundred different reasons why the FX chip would have been better utilized for lawn equipment!!

someone flame this complete retard for me. (so i dont feel alone and independant)

cmon guys lets go back to rage3d.com before i have to kick my own ass for being here...

Y'know, the 5600 ultra don't seem like such a bad card... driver improvements are bound to be coming with time... I'm selling my *capable of 310/580* 128mb ti4200, and may just snap one o these up... yeh nv35 will prolly spawn a $200-$250 version, but I think I'll take a 5600 ultra in the meantime... I've done some thinking about this... and have done a fair evaluation of my current card's capabilities... Unreal engine perfectly smooth @ 10x7, 2xaa/af and 12x10, no aa/2xaf... Only games on my system right now (postal2 demo, ravenshield demo, Unreal2 full version) are of this engine, and it's definitely helping me decide... as I've played the same engine on a P4 2.8 with 512mb PC2700 and a R9700... and have seen what it's capable of :))...

God bless the R300, but there's others on the playing field now... Time for me to get FX'ed... :)

I wonder if the FX5200ultra will be a proper GF3ti200 replacement in about 2 months... It's about time for me to upgrade my friends... Each one will be willing to kick me their current card (there's 64's and 128's) plus $50 or so... I have a slight feeling that it may be smarter still at that time to go the 9500 route with them... That's alright I guess, cuz the low priced nv35 variant will prolly be right on deck...

... hmm... DarkCrow reviews usually don't get me thinkin bout stuff this much... :D:D:D

How much is a 5600 ultra going to cost?

If it costs more than a radeon 9700pro ($256) then I would steer clear until the nv35.

Well, best buy has

99 5200
199 5200U

the above are currently in stock, the following are my best guesses based on previous pricing.

249 5600
299 5600U
349 5800
399 5800U

Of course on-line should be cheaper, but it looks like 9700NP will be cheaper than 5600U, and the 9700Pro slightly more.

Up until last week, I worked at a Best Buy. I checked the inventory system every so often, and I never saw entries for a 5600U. I saw a couple 256MB 5600 Reg's tho. The price for those were $249

yikes! That's a lot of money for a 5200!!! Makes much more sense to go online, you get stuff for a fraction of the price. God bless http://www.pricewatch.com and http://www.newegg.com

You don't actually think I'd BUY it from there do you? But, it does give a good idea of the MSRP, and you can usually derive street prices on new products from the MSRP fairly easily.

Kev1

Who is going to buy it? For that money you can get a Radeon 9700 Pro which will way out perform it.

The GFFX 5600 Ultra should be priced at $199 or less. For its performance, $150 sounds good for 128 meg card.

$199 for GFFX 5200 Ultra? I know why I only buy PC games at Best Buy, and if I can avoid that I do.

It puts a smile on my face! :)

Go to Uttar's rumor watch page (http://www.notforidiots.com/GPURW.php) and look for the entry with timestamp of Sat Apr 12, 2003 10:40:59 am.

That's everything that was in the inventory system and the prices in the POS. Based off the employee prices, they could take the 5200 Ultra's down to $149 and still make a slight profit, and they could take the 256MB 5600's (reg) down to $199 or $209 depending on the manufacturer.

Yeah, like best buy would actually cut into their profit...this is the same store that STILL sells rage fury boards for like 79 bucks.

As far as I know the gainward fx 5600U is only coming in 256mb. I have seen the same from other mfg's. Some reason their doing it for the 5600U.
Gainward Lineup (http://www.digital-daily.com/editorial/cebit-2003/index08.htm)

I think the 5600U will look like the one in my first post.
I think msrp on them are
5200 $99 5200U ?
5600 $199
5600U $249
5800 $299
5800U $399

Their not going for that currently because supply isn't meeting demand. I don't think the NV35 is designed to replace the entire line only the 5800U and 5800NONU, but that's just a guess by what mfg's are doing at this point. I think the 5600U with detonator 50's may be a good deal, it should be a good performer by the specs. And the price may drop when the NV35 hits. It should out do the 9700 pro on paper except for the 128bit memory, so we'll see how it performs, and the benefit of not having to use the catalyst drivers is another benefit to a lot of users. Personally the 5600U is not enough upgrade from a ti4600 for me I am going with a 5800U and either another 5800U or NV35 for my pc's.
