Nevertheless, Mario Rivas, who is executive vice president of computing solutions group revealed in his presentation that the code-named ATI R700-family of products will only be available in 2009.
So they're going to try to compete with R600 tech for two years.

Looking at the current pricing (HD3850 being around $160) it should work just fine. It'll give them the chance to get their drivers up to snuff and any other bugs worked out. Hopefully that gained experience will allow them to be more on top of things for the next roung. :D
Like I have been saying, I'm quite positive both ATi and AMD are going to step out of the high-end arena and focus on very competitive mainstream and low-end products. Like "Hybrid-CrossFire".

You have to be kidding me. HD3850 barely competes now and in a year it will be nothing but a crap cause you will have for same price Geforce 9 based mid range card which will literally be faster 2x. To be honest AMD/ATI won't be alive by 2009.

:wtf:
Um, for $160 the 3850 does more than compete. It smokes the 8600GTS which is it's nearest competitor. And if you don't use AA it competes nicely with even the 8800GTX. Again, for only $160.
Yeah, I'd say that's pretty darn competitive.

Speed in games isn't everything. I just bought a 3870 for HTPC because ATI offers features that NVIDIA doesn't such as full VC1 offload, audio over HDMI etc. Their featureset far surpasses NVIDIA's for those who wish to run a system on their 70" + displays.
Great , more time for Nvidia to spam the market with even more 8800's
The real competition for the 3850 is the 256 mb 8800GT which stomps it. Nvidia is expanding output of 8800 GT series to meet huge demand. Prices will come down in January February.

Is it just 4 new architectures they'll have released from 2002-09?
9 series, x1k series, hd series, r700?
Nvidia will have released in the same time:
Geforce 4, FX, 6, 8, 9, and maybe something else.
I excluded the 7 series, since it's the same feature set as the 6 series, just with more pipelines and trss in every driver for it.

The 9 series were awesome and held the crown for a long time :D

In your small little universe everybody must be a gaming-enthusiast... cause that's the only way your statements hold any water.
AMD/Ati will last you guys are focusing on the retail market ATi are making big big money with the OEM and ODM's due to thier compeditive pricing.

no, we're focusing on AMD's huge losses for the last year and its mounting debt that is higher than the company's current value

Well if you look to see what NEW games are due out 2008 then you see there really is no big deal at all.
As for ATI its AMD now and have any of you spent 5 billion? You dont spent that without expecting the what if factor. AMD is not going anywhere soon its not like a chain of stores "Compusa". Whats hahaha is someone thinking your going to get the REAL scoop on some forum.
Oh and lets come back from lala land. I used to read here how Nvidia's "9" would be here at Xmas lol that really happen. I'm just saying we should all hope and pray AMD sticks around or Nvidia will set any price it wants and YOU will pay it. Or keep using your old CRAP card. The 8800gt,gtx or ATI 3870 and if they do come out with there 3870 x2 these cards well be more than enough for any game till 2009.

With the release of the Phenoms AMD seems to have taken a definite stumble. Try to remember before Phenoms release, AMD actually started to turn a profit, meaning their debt started to shrink. Now, it ain't looking so good for them. Hopefully they'll turn it all around once the B3 Revision of Phenom is released.

I was thinking the same thing. Gaming computers make up a very small percentage of the number of computers in the world.

That is true- but gaming computers create a halo effect that sells lower cards. When you don't even have high end cards, those OEM deals get harder to come by.
Now, when you combine that with:
1. Defective, lower performing, delayed processor launch
2. Worse processors require motherboard chipset that isn't industry leader either
things start to look pretty bleak.
If you're Dell, what is your motivation to switch to AMD and anger your A list partners? The buggy processors? The 2nd tier motherboards? The 2nd tier GPUs?
The only people buying ATi these days are people who don't know any better, or really want ATi at any cost. Whatever they make, someone else makes better, and when you can say that- things aren't looking good.

I bought ATI because they are superior to every NVIDIA offering when the use of the card is for an HTPC.

3870, it's flawless. I bought an LG BD/HD DVD drive to complement it. The decoding is perfect, 100% offload, audio over HDMI, everything works.

They'd have been better had developers not stayed with ps1.1 so damn long.
The developers went to sm 3.0 almost immediately after the Geforce 6 series came out.
