Hi,
I bought a Geforce card recently ... as per vendor, it is 7300 512 mb ram, my machine is AMD 64 3000+ and OS is WinXP ( 64bit ). On booting the machine, the card bios displays : GeForce 7300 512 mb ram . And in WinXP 64, the card is detected as geforce 5500FX (with 128 mb ram)!!! ( i checked with GPUZ/ dxdiag ).........
Do i need to install / update any motherboard drivers ? or does the Card needs to be replaced ?

Have you installed the latest driver yet? If not, try that and see if it helps.

yes, i have downloaded the drivers from nvidia site, by choosing following options GeForce->7 Series->winXP 64 bit.... also cancelled new Hardware found dialogs ...also removed previously installed nvidia drivers by add / remove and driver manager ......

Wow, thats really strange. I've never heard of that happening before.

If you can't get it working properly, I'd recommend returning it.

If you're looking for a gaming card there are far better cards out there for the price of a 512mb 7300 if you're willing to buy online.

go to device manager, display adaptes, properties of your card, details, hardware ids, and look up PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_?????

then open the setup ini file from the driver. look up what your hardware ID corresponds in the driver.
