I'm putting this in gaming forum because I don't feel it fits in the pure hardware forums. Just simply list your first modern gaming PC.

No counting Commodores, TRSes, or DOS systems. Windows 95 and up only.

First Gaming PCs:
Commodore 64 (big old brown one) around 1985ish

First IBM compatible (circa 1990):
1mb RAM
5-1/4" floppy
40mb HD
CGA graphics

First real 3D gaming PC:
Cyrix 300 (overclocked to 266 from 233)
96mb PC100
Voodoo Banshee

I quickly ditched the Cyrix for a K6-2 300. :)

I played the crap out of Tribes 1 on dial-up.

If I remember right, I think it was an athlonxp -1700...does that sound right? Coupled with a radeon 9000, which was soon swapped out for a 9700pro. Win 98SE, and I think I had half a gig of ram....I murdered the proc - still not sure how.

Back in 94-95 if I remember correctly.

First gaming PC my brother had was severely under spec, but played some good games back in the early 90s.

It was a Packard Bell with a 66Mhz 486, 4Mb of ram, 1Mb video and a 400Mb hard drive. Oh and a DUAL SPEED CDROM drive.

It was already outdated by the time we got it in 1994.

I got my first computer in 1999, and I used it for gaming mostly :p. Gateway 400Mhz Pentium 2, 64Mb PC-100, integrated Velocity 128, 6.4Gb hard drive. System is still running perfectly fine to this day with 98SE and 128Mb of ram. :)

Quit breaking my rules Captncavekill! No DOS systems! LoL

That 2nd machine you mentioned was my dream when I got the one in my OP. A friend had one like it but he had 128mb RAM, a TNT and Voodoo 2 card. I drooled over it.

Played DOS games on my dad's Intel 80386... Later we had a Gateway Pentium 90mHz... that was what got me going on Doom, Civilization, Need for Speed... all the great ones.

In the broader term, my first PC was the c64. The larger, light brown one. For the more specific term, it was my parents 286 with the new ega monitor. I remember playing leisure suit larry 1 when they use to go out. It was good to be 9yrs old.

Funny thing is I started my PC experience with notebooks, don't know if I can count them as gaming systems, although 3D games weren't that evolved back then.
My first desktop gaming rig was built in 1997, had a PII 266 (Klamath I believe), Intel SE440BX motherboard, 128 SDRAM PC100 (was put to full use later when I changed the CPU to a 300MHz Deschutes that ran at 100fsb), i740 8Mb video card, Teac CDROM, 4Gb Quantum hdd, 17" monitor.

I did the 386/486's but I what I consider my first real gaming machine was a P90 mhz. Pretty sure it was Pacbell... I upgraded the cpu to 133mhz and I thought it was the bomb. Added a RivaTNT and maxed the memory out to 32 or 64 megs. Cant really recall. But I do recall my friends coming over and saying "man this thing is fast!" Ah the good ol days.

Getting the very first Geforce when they hit, man, now that was some gaming! What a card. :D
