I have a Creative Labs Geforce GTS2 which I have had for 2+ years

After a break of about 1 month (when I have been using the XFree nv driver) I rebuilt the nvidia driver with my debian unstable 2.4.20-1-k7 kernel.

I am running xfree86 v4.2.1-6 from debian unstable. The nvidia driver is 4349 built the debian way.

I have been noticing reasonable frequent lockups - but now noticed they are reproducable at http://www.ecs.tw

The screen and keyboard freeze but the mouse still moves about. I can ssh into the machine from elsewhere and it shows the xserver in a tight loop eating 100% CPU. Killing the xserver with -9 allows me (or rather init) to restart it OK.

I discovered by a process of elimination that it was the option RenderAccel set to true that caused this

I have now removed it and I seem (touch wood ;) ) to be working without any problems.

I don't think I ever set that particular option in the couple of years previously that I was running a whole number of different versions of the driver.

I hope this is of interest to someone - particularly nvidia themselves.
