Ive been thinking of putting my two SATA hard drives in RAID 0, what im wanting to know is would i be able to put the h\drives in RAID 0 and then also partition them?

Thanks.

I'm not up to date with conversion, I was under the impression that once you set up a RAID array the data on your drives is lost. As for partitioning a RAID array, yes, it can be done.

Yeah i am aware that i would loose the data, ...... does anybody know if there would be any real noticeable difference by doing this?

I've got two of my 500GB drives in RAID0, and then reparted them back to 500MB each. HDTACH reckons they're almost twice as fast a single drive (122MB/s average read compared to 66MB/s). In real use, I barely notice tbh.

With some apps like sql database programs or some such, you'll notice a speed improvement because of the frequent small random read/writes.

With games you won't notice any speed improvement at all.

Under everyday conditions you won't notice the difference at all. I had 2 of my drives in RAID 0 for a while but gave up on it. The risk of losing all my data if one failed was too big for me. So now I'm running RAID 1 (redundancy) on my documents drive, and just a regular single drive for boot.

In every case for me, under every circumstance, raid 0 is always faster. I even ran w/o raid for a couple of weeks when I rebuilt things a few weeks ago and I could tell the difference.

I'm back raid 0 with my raptors - 40GB C partition, the rest a D partition.

2 raptors in 0 gave me 5.9 when 1 broke I got a low score :(

I went to the shop on Saturday to get two Raptor 76Gb with a view to putting them in RAID0, but they only had a Raptor X 150Gb in stock, so I got that. No RAID but still quite a bit faster :)

Yup. 5.2 non-raid. 5.9 raid0.

Any good SATA harddrive 7200 running them in Raid-0 will give you 5.9 if that is important ,but in todays games 74gigs is pretty small ,even if you run two of them and have 140gigs ,that to me is still to small ,with games topping out at 8 to 10 gigs and if you save any movies it will eat though it pretty quick.
