View Full Version : Re: Anyone from UK bought Tiny/Time etc.
Hi everyone
Please ignore my bleat about the FX 5200 graphics card. It doesn't really matter any more. The sellers forgot to mention that the FX 5200 will only 'hackle' with Win-XP. Had I known this I would not have bought the machine.
Oh well ! So much for Time/Tiny information. I will attempt to return the computer, or get them to let me have a more compatible graphics card.

Say that again, only works with Windows XP?
The 43.45 and 43.51 drivers for 9x supports the FX5200......

Didn't see this thread :) Could someone merge them?
I don't see why it wouldn't work with 98 etc?
Remember that Time/Tiny are usually considered bottom of the barrel for tech support.
Everything when operating with Wn-XP is fine.
Along with the Computer a 'Sysytem & Driver CD,' is included which contains everything for the machine in case it goews belly-up and has to be kicked into life. On this CD are a number of Graphics Drivers, but the 5200 is not mentioned particularly; I had to go into the driver files within XP and compare them with what is on the CD. The nearest that I could find was one for the MSI GeForce 3_4. Excellent I said to myself? Unfortunately when I tried to install it onto Win98SE a message came up saying the drivers were for Win-XP only and eas closing down!
If anyone knows anything about the FX 5200 perhaps they would be kind enough to point me in the right direction to find the Win98 drivers for the card?
Thank you for replying.

NEVER USE the CD drivers they are always old download the newer 43.51 win9x drivers from Guru3d.com or somewhere.
Hi Everyone
My apologies for the very late reply.
I eventually persuaded Time to send me a CD with the drivers on it. They did, Unfortunately there is no setup file included.
By the bye, I did not just want the drivers I would liked to have had everything that normally comes on a Graphics-card CD when you buy it from a dealer.
Anyway fella's it does not matter anymore. I bought a far better Graphics card and installes that.
Anyone contemplating buying a Time computer should seriously think again. If you are not prepared to pay them one-pound sterling (approx $1.62) per minute for help, then none will be forthcoming?

Hmm, that's kinda ridiculous. Getting a graphics driver for a FX 5200 using Win98SE on the internet is ridiculously easy...
But anyway, what "far better card" did you buy? :)
Uttar
A MSI Ti4200.
By the way are you aware there is no cooling fan, just a heat-sink on the FX5200?

Further to my last reply.
I di indeed download and install the drivers from the net for the FX5200, and they were fine.
However, one of the games my son wanted on his machinery was 'Freelancer' which is fairly intensive on Graphic-card output, and the FX5200 would not hackle. But with the MSI all is fine.

Marcus :D
Yeah the Ti4200 is ALOT faster then an FX5200.
Thank you Dazz for replying. You obviously know tons of stuff about all these cards and things.
I started into computers when DOS was the only operating system available when graphics-cards were just a pipe-dream. You have no idea how long it took me to get into Win 3.0 never mind Win95 etc.
Fiddling around in graphics to me is a bit like, 'Wading around in glue!'

Tiny/Time are complete crap.
Every time I have to go fix a Time computer it takes for ever.
EG:
Modem drivers.
They have a folder with 10 versions of modem driver for 1 make of modem!!! They all install properly, but only 1 works. You have to try every single one to find the correct driver.
Pathetic.
The rest is the same, crap hardware, crap software, crap, crap crap.
End of Rant. :)
Yeah my friend had a Time PC K6-2 550, with a Rage 128VR which can't be disabled unless it was disabled in device manager.

True. My father-in-law has a four year old Time box, and I've lost count the number of times the "IT Paramedic" (me) has fixed it. They are truly bad...
