View Full Version : Anyone else not using CRT monitors due to headaches, etc.?

I used to have a great monitor, an IBM P275 that would do 1920x1440@90hz or 1600x1200@120hz, etc. However, it started giving me headaches, so I gave it to my brother. He usually just leaves his at 60hz, and one day, while at his house, I set his monitor (the IBM one mentioned above) to 100hz because I thought he just forgot to up the hertz level.

Well, he said it gave him a headache, so he leaves it at 60hz and he is fine. Anyone else experience anything similar? I was assuming 100hz would cause you not to have a headache, as 60hz to me almost seems like a strobe light.
:D

so 100Hz gives you headaches, and 60Hz looks like a strobe light... I hope you don't have epilepsy.

I remember getting headaches too from my old CRT, so I got a 24" LCD. Not only is the color reproduction better, but the text is crisper, and, would ya know it, NO HEADACHES!!! :D

I can't stand a CRT at anything below 85 Hz. It gives me a headache after a short period of using it. Higher frequencies don't thought...(at least not that i know of).

85Hz and above for me too. Anything lower is unbearable. Although I do know people who are fine with 60Hz.

I'm LCD all the way now. CRTs tend to develop a squeal. Every CRT monitor I've owned developed this squeal. It's worse than 60hz. ::(:

The first 6 months of when I went CRT to LCD, my LCD would give me headaches from being too bright all the time. I wake up at like 6am a lot of times and just go on the PC and that LCD brightness would just murder my brain. I can't use CRT's anymore, just not crisp enough. Anything under 75hz though would give me a headache.

I get headaches whether I am looking at a CRT or an LCD after like 2 hours. I think the brightness just gets to my eyes. Anything under 85Hz on a CRT though I could see a flicker... I got used to it, but now using a LCD its a nice change to not see that anymore.

I tried a 19" LCD and it made me dizzy the next day, LCD sucks low res balls

Sony GDM FW ftw

If you can see flicker under 85 there maybe something rewired in your optical sensors

That's why you splurge a little and get a nice Hi-res 24" inch LCD monitor. :headexplode:

Anything under 85hz bugs me and gives me some eye fatigue over time, but I never get head aches from a CRT.

Could be related to the refresh rate though. I've been using 85Hz almost exclusively for the past 4 or 5 years. My 22" can go all the way up to 2048x1536 at 85Hz, so I have no reason to use anything lower than 85.

anything under 85hz...= eyes in pain.

Mainly because i am used to 85 and above..i can tell straight away when its on a low refresh rate. I am still CRT -.-

I realize I didn't express myself properly.

What I mean to say is that under 75Hz on a CRT, I can notice flicker, but it doesn't give me a headache, but I refuse to it anyway.

What USED to give me headaches was LCD's. When I first switched from CRT to LCD, I used to get headaches from the LCD brightness all the time. Thankfully that's gone away now.

I keep my LCD brightness really low unless I am playing a game, only then do I turn it up for better colors. I don't need a sun tan when just surfing the net :p

I'll take the Sony GDM FW over any 24" LCD any day.

Splurge :)
