John does some ridiculous things to his Ferrari's. In fact, Ferrari removed his name from the short list of people able to get the first chance to reserve new automobiles.

BTW, the 35,000 mile service interval is up-coming on that automobile. Most used Ferrari's you see for sale are fast approaching that important milestone. Why so many cars for sale at the same milage, you ask?

Because the bill for the service can top over $10,000 on even the most pampered prancing horses.

So the new owner better be prepared to tack on at least double that to the price.

LOL Good point. Didn't realize that.

You read on down about the the 10th cylinder losing 100% pressure? I bet that sucker will be a pretty penny to fix.

I wouldn't be suprised.

1000HP, twin-turbos and the light-weight internals that Ferrari uses would definatly put a strain on the piston rings. The bore on that cylinder is probably trashed.

The car is worthless really. The extent to which a mechanic would have to go to put the car back to working order would render a proper restoration down the road impossible. Principaly the numbers wouldn't match because the block would need to be replaced.

John might as well fix it and keep it.

For a 1988 car, that thing ain't half bad.

It's not half good either.

John wants 100k for it? He's crazy. In the used car market, he would be lucky to get 30 grand for it. The car has no future ahead of it as far as collectablity, so there went most of its worth. It needs a new engine and considering its vintage, new suspension bushings. You're talking around $20,000 dollars for a new flat-12 before you factor in the enormous cost of labor on a Ferrari, add on another $10,000 for the labor and parts for the suspension and you have more trouble then its worth.

Besides, it's not like its a 512TR.

I guess your saying that he should stick to programming...

For 100 grand I'd own me an SC400 and a 350zx..:afro:

It probably should be pointed out this isn't his car anymore. To quote that Ebay bid:

"This is the famous Carmack Testarossa. Formerly owned and autographed by John Carmack of id Software, it was featured in the May, 1999 issue of Car & Driver. The article can be found @ http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/features/1999/May/199905_feature_docto.xml?keywords=doctor%20yes%20a nd%20the%20mad%20ferraris"

He owned it first then someone else bought it, apparently. No telling what they did to it. If I get a chance, I'll try and get that Car & Driver article and read it.

Sad to see fools spend so much on a cheap thrill. My $8000 bike has better acceleration, better gas mileage, cheaper to repair if it gets broken, and better reliability than a 100k car. Sad sad world. :D

Of course, it's not a Ferrari though.

Whoever has $50,000+ to spend on this car, probably have enough to repair it as well. i know I'd buy it if I was that wealthy.

I saw alot of those TVRs when living in London, and I must say, they sound very very nice, I could always tell when one of those was coming up the road, just from the sound of the engine :afro:
