Its just that I feel as if every one is pointing a finger at me and all these anti pirate schmucks came out of the wood works. All I wanted was to know the ****ing release date of the HD DVDs :(

What a load of ****, why dont you stick to your own rules then, there are countless threads with piracy talk and scans from magazines yet you say or do nothing about that but god forbid someone talks about a movie capture from a television broadcast, then thats bad and illegal. What a crock. They were right about nvnews, it's full of idiots. I would like you to show me where I have made a single post linking or mentioning pirated software, music or movies. So STFU and do some reasearch before you slam me. I don't control what the other mods say or do, and it's not my job. If they were doing something wrong then MikeC would give their asses the boot just as fast as he would a non mod who broke the rules.

Theres a crap load of threads on NVnews talking about DLing a copy of Vista or XP since they have a legal serial#. Yet apparently according to those in this thread its illegal yet no one said **** in those threads.
Downloading windows is not even close to downloading full movies. Don't even try to compare the two. Hell you can order any version of windows you want from microsoft without a cd key and i think they charge like $10 for the disc and shipping. I'm almost positive the only reason that they don't put a torrent for the os is so that they don't add to the already increasing piracy. Technically it's illegal for you to rip your own music/movies to your computer (pending current court decision).
sorry you miss understood. I am not comparing movies to windows. I am comparing a missing disk to a missing disk. If you lose a windows disk they say its ok to DL it (pirating). If you lose a DVD disk and DL it your a pirate I mean wtf is wrong with people :p If DLing another copy is wrong then its wrong for every one. Like you said its10 dollars for a replacement disk so there for thats what you should do.
Justifying it makes you just as morally wrong as the next guy

yes but with one missing disc you have paid for the full use already (you get 3 uses from the key, only 1 active at a time, according to the license agreement), not like you are going to load vista on your ipod. with the other missing disc, the ever loving retarded government agencies says that you paid for the disc and the content of that disc only, you can not make copies of it to other devices, yada yada yada. So without the first disc, you still have the right to use it, with the other, you have no right to it unless you are using the disc itself. Again, apples and oranges.
that makes sense. I hate the RIAA and these stupid copy laws. If I buy a movie its mine F them all every thing of mine hits a 4 TB raid for storage and the disk gets lost in a CD case in the closet. Back in the day of the VCR it was legal (to make personal backups) now adays tho I guess thats illegal to what a crock. :( I don't think piracy is to blame tho I believe its more or less the greedy movie industry trying to milk us for every sent and now they use law suites to do it. as long as you have the original disk tho you can argue fair use in court and tell them to go **** off. Then they come back with the intent to distribute BS and then you just come back and say proof it. Its really sad how things turned out with DRM and DVD's

chris, does HDCP kick in when playing BD/HD-DVD movies?
just wondering cause i havent used/seen anything yet that uses HDCP. luckily my monitor/vid card support it.

HDCP is only used when the disc requires it. Or that was the original plan. The latest version of PowerDVD forces it for any and all DVD's HD or not it makes no difference. If you want to watch your DVD or HD DVD that you paid for and don't have a HDCP capable system you have to use AnyDVD HD to remove the Copy protection on the fly as the disc plays or Rip it first to your Hard drive and then trans code it. Its retarded I know but buying a DVD or HD DVD now a days doesn't give you the right to play it :headexplode:

I'm also pretty sure that video ripping is covered by different legislation than music, and other than for backup purposes, you are not legally able to do so (plus the fact that you are not allowed to circumvent the drm on the video to do so anyway).
