Well like most of you with a Laptop, using the nVIDIA Ge Force 4 chipset, and wanting to either test or us the Redhat AS 2.1 X is not starting.

Well after reading all of your errors and suggestions and all, I was looking at my config and had noticed one thing as odd. My X was out of date. So I went to xfree.org and downloaded the latest x server compiled it and ran Xconfigurator and low and behold, straight out of the box X was working :)

So if your still having problems, try to update X to the latest version, that helped me, and I have a Dell Latitude C840.

Good luck guys.

Did you reinstall the driver after installing the new X? XFree86 4.3.0 has a driver that works with the GF4 (and FX) cards, but it's 2D-only (just like it always has been with GF2, 3, etc. cards). If you didn't reinstall your nVidia drivers, you're still using this 2D-only driver.

Thanks for that bit of info, that's good to know, I will update the drivers again and check, but I don't use the 3d part :), I just use it as a standard gui for some updates and so forth.

Oh, if you only use 2D, then, that's not a problem. For you. ;)
