Yeah, at first glance I Was like "wtf firewire?" but its definately not if you look a little closer. I have no idea what it is.

Looks like optical audio in/out to me.

I should probably try to resist the temptation to buy one of those.

Well the card has sound outputs so I guess that's an internal sound input connector. It's hard to tell from those images though.

But I really like the new cooler.

So looks like you can only install 2 of these cards for SLI or Quad

Doesn't look like you can do a Tri GPU setup, or 3 cards.

With 2 of those monsters where would you put your soundcard?!

isnt the optical port to put a sound source into (not out) so it can be routed though the hdmi into a TV?
Onboard sound has optical out ,Most HDTV speakers wouldnt feel the goodness of an X-Fi/Prelude.

will the two g92's scale as badly as 2 gt's in SLI?
if so the ATI X2 would perform better.

Im liking the HDMI port as standard, but the DVIs stacked like that Im not sure about.

Not buying one until some guinea pigs test it out.

Looks like little to no chance for aftermarket cooling. Is that how previous GX2's were?

nope, there were waterblocks made for the 7950gx2.

This may be a good thing I guess for those who will use intel chipsets only in the future(me included)...

I'm gonna rip the ugly cover off that sumbich and cool that thing with water because they'll probably get super hot no doubt.

Sooooo ... Will one of those be faster then 2 GTX's ?

LORD-eX-Bu
01-05-08, 05:14 PM
how would one be faster than 2 GTXs when they said that it will only be 30% faster than an Ultra :headexplode:

Well i dont know how much performance gain you get from sli ? It was about 30% right ?

Given the expected price of $449 for the GX2, this really isn't that bad... However, I for one am considering 9800 GTX tri-SLI. Seems like the price will probably be about $400-425, so 3 cards would be about what I was expecting to pay for 2. Maybe it's just a die shrink w/ some clock increases, but they'll run cooler and consume the same or less power then my current card, and probably overclock really well. I hope they'll have a 1GB model though, even if it costs a bit more.

I would expect BFG et al would do factory installs of waterblocks, but with those PCB's (seemingly) stacked chip heatspreader facing chip heatspreader with solder side of PCB's on the outer sides of the card, seems a dicey proposition to pop those apart and put in a block aftermarket.

Only time will tell I spose...

All depends upon the game. I've seen as high as 90% gains in some cases, but usually games fall in between 60 - 80% for me.

Don't buy into that BS, the 7950GX2 had 1GB ram too, however as they are SLI there is only 512MB texture space and the same will be for these cards too.
