On nvidia's website it says the 8800 GTS with 320 mb's of ram is for extreme gamers and the 8800 GT with 512 mb's of ram is just for gamers. So Which is better. Without overclocking.

8800GT...the only card that matters for you

im a little mixed up on the new models myself, but isnt the GT the newer chip with the power of the GTX? if so, that would put the GT way above the GTS.

yeah i was thinking of going with the GT. It costs more but i don't want any less memory than 512. my video card right now has 128 and it's reserving 1 gig of my systems memory. Is there any way i can edit that?

The 8800 GT is faster than the 8800 GTS 320.

Although the 8800 GTS 512 is faster than the 8800 GT 512.
(The 512 GTS is a newer model than the 320 GTS)

As for reserving, you mean your computer is showing 1 gig less of system ram for normal use? Or it is allowed to use up to 1 gig of system ram?
Should be a bios setting for that. 1 gig is pretty high too.

The 8800 GT 512 is faster than either the 8800 GTS 320 or 640. However, the 8800 GTS 512 is faster than the 8800 GT.... It's pretty confusing. :headexplode:

The 8800gt is *a lot* better than the old 320mb-gts :D
Not only because of the memory (which will become very noticeable in 1280x1024 and above), but also because the g92 is a good bit better than the g80.

confusing tell me about it i still canīt get it how a card with less mem and membus is better faster and or stronger than the G80 GTS 640/320 or even as good as the 8800GTX this is something i canīt figure should i sell my 8800GTS for the Gainward 8800GT 1GB "GS" 650+core or shall i get the 8800GT TOP from Asus and how will any of these, make Crysis COD 4 WIC go better on my comp E6600 2GB PC5300 DDR2 RAM

or shall i get KInstons Hyper X PC8500 2GB that is "optimized" for the mainboard i have. What do ya all say How is these new GTīGTSīs better than the GTX and the GTS 320/640?

1. The g92 chip on the gt is a good bit better than the g80 chip on the old gts, and it has more pipelines as well.
2. There's still quite a difference between 8800gt and gtx in higher resolutions, especially when using aa.
3. Getting a 1gb gt would just be a waste of money. Unlike the *big* difference between 256/320mb and 512mb, there's pretty much no difference between 512mb and 1gb yet.

ok so a ASUS TOP GT is much better at 1280x1024 in say Crysis with 2-8XAA than my current GTS and the TOP is about as much as i can get for my GTS wich has never been OCīd and all is intact so i could get a pretty good price for it....or so i hope :)

or even a EVGA SCC GT might be better than my current.

BTW have ya guys heard of the 9800GX2 it is based on the G92 Chipset and is virtually two GT/GTS put together like the 7950 it is a 1gb card with 512/CARD

so it seems the 900 series isnīt all that after all jjust a NOS injected G92

wait half year more and go for new 9xxxxxxx
and if you dont want to wait then 8800GT512 is only option. Zatec amp! edition is best one. Faster than gtx and with better cooler.
the new gtss are much to $ compared to gt

If I could I would change my gts320 for gt but in poland gt is more valuable than gts :(

i was thinking of going for the new GTS but i got adviced to wait as the performance increase is too small at the time who knows ATI/Nvidia may come with some new cards but the 9800GX2 or so is only a G92=2GTīs in one like the 9750 version so if 9800 series is a vamped G92 then Nvidia wonīt sell to many as folks clock their GTīs gtsīs so i am not sure what Nv is up to

btw. Can anyone posts a reviews of vanilla 8800gt 512 and reviews comparing it to gts320 ? Becouse I cant find any usable tests.
And Hardocp tests are stupid as hell becouse they are using not the same option when testing which is retarted.

Look... just use this review

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/603/5/

It compares a GTS 640mb, but the deal is that the GT 512 beats the GTS 640 on everything. Since this is true, the 320mb version is going to be slower. It doesn't have anything that the GTS 640 doesn't have. It just has half the memory.

Where did you get that nonsense from that a gt (even if oc'ed) would be faster than a gtx?

Here are the perfomance ratings in % (based on all benchmarks) I found on a German tech site.
In 1280x1024 w/ 4xaa/16xaf the gtx has 10% advantage, and in 1600x1200 (and 1680x1050 alike) it even has 25% advantage over the gt:

Besides that, the amp card (as well as the ordinary one) still has the same crappy default single-slot cooler:

but the GT is faster or as good as good as a 512 GTS if the GT is overclocked such as my GT OC2 :D

so finally. There is no performance increase over 320,640,gt512 or 1giga or 500000gigaton when you gaming in resolution not bigger than 1280x960
Below this resolution all cards are the same.(offcourse oced cards are faster, and gt is alike bit oced old gts)

I have 320mb GTS and gaming at 1440x900. Its ok then but when playing at 1680x1050(my native) I got a lot of stuttering. And as for exchangin it for gtx or gt. I just oced it and gained 10fps in crysis for free

Baah I am only talking like this becouse I cant sell my 320....

Correct, but you have to have a very healthy OC to match the number of extra stream processors the GTS 512 has.

For the price, the GTS 512 everytime.

The price for a GT in the UK is stupid now -175 ,GTS is the better -200

To some extent it gets down to clock speeds, G92 is clocked higher than G80. From personal experience, a G80 GTS 640Mb overclocked to G92 GTS 512 default speed nearly matches it in performance. So clock per clock they are almost equal. You can overclock the G92 further, that's the good part.
