View Full Version : Voodoo5 Overclocking?
Just curious, anybody ever trying hardcore overclocking a Voodoo5 to compete with current video cards? I mean with water cooling and/or giant-sized HSF's, how high could a V5 go and what would it compete with? Radeon 7000? GF3TI? What's the limit of the old king? :D

I don't know, but I've got a V5 5500 AGP that I'm willing to melt in the name of science........
How do I voltmod this puppy? :p
V5's do not overclock well at all. The chips get to hot. If you supercool the front, you also have to supercool the back of the chips. And then, if you do, it will not go past 190 stable, and realisticly past 183 unless you cool the memory.
DO NOT VMOD IT!!!! Many have made this mistake, and even with watercooling it fried. You will not see very much of a performance gain either from overclocking the V5.

Thanks for the warning. Mine OCs pretty solid to 183ish if I recall, I guess I should be happy with that and mebbe just add some fins to me memory to help it dissipate the heat a bit better. :)

I still have my 3dfx Voodoo5-5500 AGP and it works great! I'm never going to sell it as it will become a collector's item in the next few years, know what I'm sayin'?:smoking:
