To all of those people here who believe the consumer didn't chose Blu-Ray over HD. I know most of the people here support both formats and you probably have to agree that what Warner Bros did was sneaky, but you can't blame them for wanting to make money. If you think what Warner Bros did was wrong, especially for everyone whos invested in HD please sign the petition and lets keep HD alive. :)

Hate to point this out... but a few thousand signatures won't make them change their mind. If anything, it would prove how little of an HD-DVD market there really is (not that they don't already know that because they're going Blu-ray because of statistics).

I signed it simply because I always tend to vote for the underdog... and I really like the Xbox 360 hd-dvd player. It plays movies via USB!!! Find me a Blu-ray player that does that, and I'll be blu-ray dedicated.

if paramount and universal switches to blu-ray (which is semi confirmed but reminds to be a rumor) then this petition is useless.

2 to 1 sales ratio... how is that NOT the consumers choosing?

I think all HD-DVD signaturers who really did not understood why HD-DVD lose and never done researched on VHS and Betamax history want to save HD-DVD?

It all about marketshare!!!

http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~lcabral/teaching/betamax.pdf

Take a look at VHS and Betamax worldwide marketshare from 1975 to 1988:

http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/788/vbsharewo0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

In around 1985, UK retailers and wholesalers decided to dropped Betamax support and backed VHS as the home VCR format based on sales data with VHS accounted 70% of UK marketshare. VHS had nearly 80% of marketshare worldwide and Betamax had about 20% in 1985 then Sony finally conceded defeat in 1988 to ended Betamax support and started manufactured Sony branded VHS VCRs.

Below are the regions marketshare of Blu-ray at the end of 2007:

USA & Canada 61%
Europe 73%
Asia 75%
Japan 97%
Australia 90%

That worked out the average Blu-ray marketshare to be about 79% and HD-DVD had about 21% worldwide.

Just goes to show what sadists human beings really are.
They enjoy paying heightened rates for an inferior product, totally suckered in by advertising.

it's true that most blu-ray movies outsold hd-dvd movies. for players, that might be different story.

Not if you include the PS3 as a player.

Not if you include the PS3 as a player. You'd have to take that into consideration. I don't have a PS3, but if I did, I would not buy a separate Blu-Ray player just yet due to costs.

2 to 1 sales ratio... how is that NOT the consumers choosing?

Out of every 10,000 people ( movie buyers )

60 chose BD
40 chose HD DVD
9,900 didn't choose

Understand? Money is what "chose" this. Sometimes I wonder if you are really that dumb or just trying to be funny...

And god came down from the heavens and created the fanboy, with this fanboy he instilled "don't confuse me with the facts my mind is made up".

HD DVD is the best choice on all fronts, if anyone tries to argue this fact they just seem silly.

Good luck with the petition but it's probably not going to help one bit:

is there a petition to kill HD-DVD?

have you guys read that petition? its retarded :rofl :rofl

The only thing Blu-Ray has going for it is 20GB of extra storage space, and a big name like Sony backing it up. HD-DVD on the other hand has PIP, web-enabled features, in movie menus, and much more. And if extra space is needed, use another disc, big deal.

like anybody is gonna take that seriously... "big deal" :udawg:

Instead of putting HD DVD out of its misery we need to put some of the users out of there misery. The bitching is unreal. HD DVD is dead because Sony advertised Blu-ray (yeah you figure that one out), I read Blu-ray is inferior on a forum, I don't have neither but I hate Blu-ray because Sony killed my cat, I rather play with neat menu's and buttons on my remote than watching the movie, Blu-ray is the reason there are no commercials on TV for HD DVD.:headexplode:

HD-DVD supporters did screw up with not advertising the crap out of HD-DVD. I believe that I've only seen 3 magazine ads for HD-DVD, no commercials on TV nor Radio. Blu-Ray however has advertisements all over the place! More people are more familiar with BR, not because of the PS3 but from the ads.

If it were up to me, HD-DVD would be crowned the winner and we could be happy. But really, all I want is a HDM that plays my movies in native 1080i/p with 5.1 surround sound and have room to grow for future technologies, i.e. 7.1 surround sound, 1080p resolution.

if you want my honest opinion... i used to be on hd-dvd side because it's superior. blu-ray was crap until later they finally added features and this year we'll be seeing bd live and picture-in-picture, etc. also bd has improved by using newer codec which looks alot better than mpeg2.

so i started to hop on bd bandwidth just because it's getting better and is more likely to win the format war. soon if not sooner, bd will be far more superior than hd-dvd. it's reason why i got ps3 to watch bd movies since it's able to update up to profile 2.0 (or maybe 3.0) so i don't have to worry about spending $$$ on player (i'm college student so yeah i'm broke lol). until i graduate, i'm gonna buy nice bd player when format war ends, ablility to upgrade with firmwire via internet and price drops. :D
