Why is this still interesting now the format war is bascially over? :p
Anyway you should probably add in some perspective to these numbers. MPEG2 codecs have been steadily decreasing while both AVC (the best codec IMO) and VC-1 (second best) have been steadily rising the past year. Anyway where have you heard that rumor? I've never heard it anywhere and I've been reading a lot of HD DVD and Blu-ray the past months.
And why not throw in the stats about audio codecs where Blu-ray have the clear advantage? ;)

I hate to say it, but just IMO, BR has the better exclusive titles.
(btw I wouldn't call comparing a few numbers for "an in depth analysis ;))
Yet another reason I chose HD-DVD, If or when Sony wins I will buy every HD DVD I can get my hands on thats on sale or BOGO. I can't for the life of me understand why sony as they preach how they say "we know what the customer want" doesn't use the VC1 only for all of there movies.

I don't wanna sound smart or anything, but what happens when you have your HD-DVD player, 100 movies and then HD-DVD dies? What happens when they stop making HD-DVDs? Do you still say that your money was well invested? This is why I wanted to wait it out, hopefully if BR wins, then it will be around for more than just 3 years.

Consumer electronics aren't an investment. I got my money's worth out of my players long ago.

I wouldn't even call it a analysis. All he is doing is comparing some numbers, and doesn't do a good job at it. This is what you get for a lack of any formal or informal training in the field.

Well do you think it's an indepth analysis? I'm not trying to offend him, just speaking my mind. You are obviously trying to offend, though I couldn't care less of that aweful attempt :p

I'm not a rich guy so buying into something like this is an investment to me lol. I can't just buy a $300-$400 standalone HD-DVD player, movies for $20-$30 a pop and then be semi-screwed when the format dies out. Yeah, I could get a $180 HD-DVD drive for the 360 but still, that's $180 that could've went somewhere else. I know I sound cheap but seriously, I'm a broke college student about to get married . . . yeah . . . :D

I just hope one of the two formats go out here soon and we can focus on getting HDM to the masses. I really wish that there was a way to force/push HDTVs and HD programming, but knowing most Americans, 25% to 45% just bought their first DVD player last year lol. I can't tell you how many people I've had to yell in my face because Blockbuster didn't carry VHS tapes anymore. If only cable and satellite companies would start pushing people to get HDTVs . . they are getting pretty cheap nowadays.
My A2 was 98 bucks so im out nothing really.

Wow, that's a sweet price. Wish HD-DVD had better title selection or else I would get another HD-DVD player.

Really? Not including the SD-DVD titles I currently own, there are only a handful of HD-DVDs I would buy/rent, compared to 10-20 Blu-Ray titles that I would buy/rent. To each his own . . .

Sony has a BD-ROM drive coming Feb 11th for $200. Pre-order is already up on Amazon. I thought about getting this for my HTPC.

I haven't heard yet, that's why I'm waiting and keeping an eye out. I would say that since it's a PC drive, it should be upgradable.

So you are saying VC-1 is superior to AVC? Please show me where this is true, because I look at PoTC and those movies look amazing, and then I look at House of 1000 Corpses and it looks amazing also... so... what is the problem? Or are you just regurgitating what Amir says?
