So, I'm curious to see which game you guys like better -- the Ultimate Doom or Doom 3?

I think that the Ultimate Doom was better. The colors/artwork were superior, the monsters were more memorable, the level design was nearly flawless, and I thought the actual gunplay was great. Doom 3, while an amazing game in its own right, just isn't as good as the original Doom...

Original - Ultimate, Doom 2, TNT etc, they never get old.

Yeah, I can't even tell you how many times I've played through the Ultimate Doom. It's probably in the hundreds at this point!

I like Ultimate Doom better. Though as you say. Doom 3 is a great game.

Hmm, see, while I liked Doom 3, I don't think it deserved the name "Doom". It should have just been called something else because Doom and Doom 2 were both absolutely fantastic, but Doom 3's just merely, "good". And it's not at all in the same style as the previous games.

Ah well.

doom 3 was great, but nothing really compares to the original doom games in my book 'cept maybe Quake 1.

Equally good. Ultimate Doom for the atmoshpere/gameplay & Doom3 for its graphics.

Hehe, I recently been playing DOOM on XBLA and man, it does bring back some great memories from DOS days.

DOOM 3 is a great game but still it doesn't capture the mood that original DOOM did. DOOM has some awesome art, textures, atmosphere where you feel you're really in Hell. I mean, the sense of Hell with color choice, symbols, dark and creepy where DOOM 3 is basically all metal, etc. Sometimes I wondered if id people actually worships satan or something when they were working on DOOM. lol Because they did nail at that very well.

How you know they hit the nail on the head unless you worship satan? ::bleh::

You can't even compare them. They're two completely different games made in two different eras of gaming.

Thus, I voted for "they're both equal".

DOOM3 gets my vote as I was never that impressed with the original DOOM. It didn't seem drastically better than Wolf3D. Dark Forces came out not long after I played DOOM and you could jump in Dark Forces, so game over.

Dark Forces was awesome :D

ID should just remake Ultimate Doom--same gameplay, same levels, latest engine. I think it would be very successful and would cost them little to make considering they only have to copy the original.

Have you ever tried Doomsday (http://www.doomsdayhq.com/)?

Ups the graphics a bit, jumping enabled etc. Almost a must have for anyone still playing today.

That's kinda cool. Of course if you could jump in the DOOM maps couldn't you get places you shouldn't be able to? I mean the maps/game weren't designed for it.

Not as bad as you would think, you can bypass triggers on rare occasion, get to keys the easy way sometimes, but upping the difficulty fixes that pretty quick. :p

It has to be Ultimate Doom by a hair I remember playing both and I think for its age Ultimate Doom was just a tad better of a game.
