i installed the newest version of the nvidia IA32 driver, on my Slackware installation. i don't know if IA32 is the right one or not, but thats the one i got. anyway, the nvidia installer compiled a new kernel interface and installed the driver successfully, but the X server won't recognize the nvidia driver when i try to modify XF86Config to use it. X gives me the output error message: "nvidia is not a recognized driver".
some of my system info:
card: GeForce 2 MX 400 (AGP)
distribution: Slackware 7.1 (ZipSlack)
kernel: default kernel that comes w/ ZipSlack
...
i know the driver modules are there, and they're loadable, because when i use "modprobe nvidia" or "insmod nvidia", it loads the module. but X still doesn't recognize the driver. i unmodified my XF86Config file so i could run X without the nvidia driver, using the default 16-color driver that comes with slackware. i'll attach XF86Config anyway incase it might still be usefull. the module section for nvidia is still there, but it doesn't do anything.
i'd really appreciate any help i could get with this thing, cuz the 16 colors are really annoying! :)
