In very good shape
The foundation of R700, the chip called RV770 is taped out and it looks very promising. Just as ATI based many products on RV670 it plans to use the same tactics for the RV770.
This chip will be used for mainstream, performance and high end products and we can tell you that it should end up significantly faster than RV670. From what we have learned, it should be more than fifty percent faster, although we heard even higher numbers.
The RV770 is DirectX 10.1 compatible and it is made at 55 nanometre by who else than TSMC. This baby is scheduled for late Q2 if not early Q3.

Thats good news that it passed testing this month.

RV770 is based on TSMC 55nm process and silicon are already taped out. RV770 will split into 3 segments; mainstream, performance, and high end. RV770 will be at least 50% faster than RV670. RV770 supports DX10.1 and slated for Q3 launch.

Good to see ATI picking up speed, hopefully this also means that Nvidia will release "the" card we've all been waiting for,if there in fact is such a thing .
Yep good to see them trying to catch up. if they success in remaining competitive with the upcoming 9800GTX or the GX2 that will be great.
Niceee, cant wait to see these babys :D
O man these look rather promising, hopfully Q3 08 doesn't mean Q2 09, like the R600 fiasco...
The only time I'll get excited about an ATI product is when it's actually available, credibly benchmarked, and outperforms the competition. I've never seen such a mountain of ridiculous boasting PR that turned out to be hot air as AMD has produced the last year or so.

I'd like to see ATI do well. Always felt their IQ was better.

Is IQ some computer term that neither I nor google know about, or are you merely referring to the intelligence of their engineers, or the company as a whole?

So we have to wait until June or so until a card can play Crysis at 1920x1200 and get 30+ fps?

Pretty much .. but not 30+fps .. more like 25+fps :o
I'd like to see ATI do well. Always felt their IQ was better. They had it all figured out a few years ago and fell off the wagon. Maybe its time the cycle repeated.

Truthfully they merely aquired a company whom had technology better then theirs. They modified it slightly and released it. After the intergration of said company, they never again released a gpu that competed truthfully again.

Hopefully they'll release those cards on time without delays.

I believe he is referring to ATI acquiring artX in 2000. The company that originally designed the gpu in the gamecube that ATI put their logo on. ATI only produced the flipper chip. David Orton is from Silicon Graphics--> ArtX--> ATI.
